You have to understand the difference. Almost all Israelis, whether right-wing, centrist, or even most of the left wing, stand unconditionally behind the security interests of the country and its identity as a Jewish state. That does not make it any less of a democracy with rule of law.

I can't express how much I loathe the Israeli religious right, and their fuckery with democracy (using demographic advantage and power place to cement their position by restricting aliyah). But they haven't won yet.
