We started Myatt & Co five years ago and the goal was to provide ongoing, conversational professional learning during the lockdowns.

There were 50 recordings and 20 contributors when we started.

Now, there are over 500 resources from over 200 contributors.

Primary colleagues

Yesterday we had a great discussion on The Teachers' Collection about the elements of the new framework that focus on inclusion, curriculum and teaching

We want to sure all our pupils have a great curriculum, regardless of their starting points.

This is understandable, because the public exams at the end of KS4 and KS5 have big implications for students and for schools. So it’s natural that the focus is there.

However, here’s what the report had to say:

There’s general agreement that KS3 is not as challenging as it might be.

There are always examples of great practice, but for the most part, KS3 has had less attention than other key stages....

Curriculum support for new subject leaders in primary

If you have colleagues picking up a new responsibility for a curriculum area next term, these lovely conversations with great colleagues are a great starting point.

A joy, not a chore!

One of the most important things, I reckon, to get right in classroom culture.

I unpack this on my Substack open.substack.com/pub/marymyat...

Am thinking and writing about the implications of what colleagues are saying about their school improvement priorities.

The second priority relates to inclusion in the curriculum, more here on my substack open.substack.com/pub/marymyat...

I've developed 5 steps across the curriculum to get a sense of a pupil's journey as they learn across the key stages.

The power of beautiful resources

I think it’s important to think about beauty when we are evaluating resources we use for teaching.

This isn’t about taste, it’s about value.

Our pupils deserve the best.

We are a challenge seeking species, we like doing things that are difficult!

It is in the struggle of the challenge, when we are working our imaginative muscles that the real work of learning takes place.

Too good to be true?

16 months’ progress in reading comprehension in 12 weeks?

Who wouldn’t love results like these?

'It makes me feel clever!'

This is often the response when pupils get to grips with demanding work.

It's why all young people deserve a rich, interesting curriculum.

New webinar!

High challenge, low threat in the classroom

We can sometimes make things too easy for our pupils and students in the mistaken belief that they won’t be able to cope with demanding work.

In fact they can!
