A lot of well meaning people in the US still don't *get it.*
As I mentioned before, there are long-term attitudinal shifts happening amongst US allies - and they are happening at all levels of society. Trust has been burned. Countries have been humiliated, sneered at, dismissed as losers.

people who can't hate them all need more spite in their hearts, I guess
Possibly the only thing more freakish than Nuzzi's prose is the contortions her defenders twist themselves into. "She's not just hot, but she definitely is hot, while also being a vulnerable smol child. Also, criticizing her is sexist."

One thing about the current SCOTUS that they try to retain the intellectual patina for their decisions when in reality they're just the most basal, partisan, power politics decisions imaginable. There is no intellectual foundation there, just post hoc rationalizing--an intellectual dead end.

Oral arguments just wrapped up in Trump v. Slaughter. It is more likely that the New York Jets will win the Super Bowl this year than it is that the court won’t overturn Humphrey’s Executor.

Only question now is how much more damage the conservative justices do along the way.

we are going to have to start writing laws with explicit addenda preemptively rebutting the most likely bad faith interpretations from future fedsoc hacks.

My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.
