#ChristmasRead No6 is a very popular choice by all accounts

Reading it right now!

#ChristmasRead No5.
Tonight's choice was a sweet little story - Puppy's First Christmas. The 3 and a half year old Granddote really LOVED it. It was SUPER GOOD.
The 5 and a half 'liked it', too.

#kidsbooksfriday Most good picturebooks are sophisticated enough to provide philosophical food for thought for any agegroup. The Australians are great: think #MargaretWild #ShaunTan
However there are picturebooks that are too serious in topic for smallies. #ArminGreder's books for example.

And #ChristmasRead No4 is - Refuge. A timely and timeless story.

#ChristmasRead No3 is, for me, a wonderfully nostalgic Ladybird book - The Wise Robin. I remember my Mom reading it to me a LONG time ago.

#ChristmasRead No2 is ...
The Snowy Day
December 2, 2025 at 8:13 PM
AND ... Christmas Read No 1 is (drum roll) How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

I am planning to get this soon

Not home grown, but homemade - the Granddotes helped me make cookies, brown scones and porridge bread this morning ( there were 16 cookies ...). One family member picks all the raisins out of muesli, so into the scones and bread they go.

And, after another trawl through the #ChristmasPicturebooks, more appeared. Still looking for The Jolly Christmas Postman, though.

Here's a nice readaloud idea for Parents/Teachers in the buildup to Christmas. Wrap all Xmas/Winter books up individually and read 1 a day from Dec 1st.

My Grandsons have a Scottish Nana who sent them these favourites.

It's "Guess Again" by the inimitable and zany Mac Barnett with great illustration by Adam Rex

This book never gets old. It's a favourite here with the grandsons.
November 14, 2025 at 10:41 AM
Well, these two came to mind immediately.

David Macaulay's books - particularly his architectural series - have always fascinated children who love NF.

Think of an Eel shows how a NF text can be both factual and lyrical.

Both old now but timeless.

These are great. And we read There's a Ghost in this House this morning after breakfast!

These 2 books came to mind immediately. Both have a lovely message about overcoming literacy delays.
