Heartbroken this morning, waking up to the news of the Holy Father’s death. He was a breath of fresh air in our Church. I pray the Cardinals choose a successor who will continue his ministry of tenderness and compassion, justice and joy, simplicity and inclusivity. Photo by @marydtp.bsky.social

The ashes may be gone from our foreheads, but the real work is just beginning. If you don’t live up to the promises you made yesterday, dust yourself off and start again. It is not about achieving goals but deepening relationship—with God, with self, with others. When all else fails, choose love.

I call her Joan of Art, the second in my mixed media series on the badass saint who defied societal norms, followed her truth, and won the day. Until they burned her at the stake. May Joan give us courage to stand up for what’s right, no matter the cost.

We know words have power. It's up to us to use our words and our voices for justice, for freedom, for those without a voice. Silence is no longer acceptable.
The quote is from the poem "Spelling" by @margaretatwood.bsky.social #silenceiscompliance

At the close of last weekend's retreat, each of us wrote a blessing related to the idea of spiritual rest. I wrote mine in haiku form.

When the mayhem we are witnessing feels like it's closing in, take a moment to pause and find at least 3 things for which you are grateful. For me today: the comfort of my own bed after being away, animal tracks in new fallen snow, the sound of birds singing on a winter morning as I walked the dog.

Although tracking is no longer necessary, it’s fun to be able to see the milestones when I hit them. This is a big one. Living an alcohol-free life is second nature now. So glad I made the decision almost three years ago. #alcoholfree

Christmas season in the Catholic Church is finally over. Crèche crew at my parish lines up for their flight home. You'd think the Magi would let Mary cut the line.

"The liturgical year...opens with Advent, the season that teaches us to wait for what is beyond the obvious. It trains us to see what is behind the apparent. Advent makes us look for God in all those places we have, until now ignored." —Joan Chittister, OSB #advent
