Just for a change, I’ve decided to draw something really fucken challenging.
The very early stages of my drawing of a beetle’s head. It’s a vivid blue colour and I’ve started drawing in its bumpy texture using black.

At an AES event several years ago, a customer kindly pointed out that some of my earlier drawings had somewhat incorrect colouring, as back then I was drawing from my specimens and hadn't even considered that they might be faded. Well, I'm now pleased to share my updated cecropia silkmoth...
My new cecropia silkmoth, with a much more red body and wing details. My original drawing, which looks slightly more brown / orange as it was based on a slightly faded specimen.

Having one of my Completely Normal Evenings.
Photo of a number of bug specimens I'm pinning ready for photographing and (eventually) drawing. There's a hummingbird hawkmoth (which'll be my next piece) a couple of grasshoppers, a couple of lanternbugs, a devils flower mantis and, most impressively, a giant black scorpion.

I FUCKEN FINISHED!!! As always, it took me 2 months, but I got there in the end.

Sigh - the more I probe it, the more fallable it becomes. It's nothing more than a fancy word generator, but the wider public don't have the skills to interrogate it properly. And its appearance of intelligence makes its utterances al the more dangerous.

I grilled it some more and it admitted the quotes, which it had claimed were 'actual quotes from reviews' were fabricated.

This bullshit machine is soon going to be where everyone gets their information from, and the reason so many people will lose their jobs.

It's infuriating.

Folks, I'm in the undeniable position of having to learn more about how I can incorporate AI and LLMs into my daily workload (for my real job, not my drawings), so I gave Chat GPT a very simple task of finding reviews of my book. It started off promisingly:

I'll be at the Amatuer Entomological Society Exhibition tomorrow selling postcards, greetings cards and prints. It's at Kempton Park Racecourse and well worth a visit if you like specimens or live insect pets (or art).

One final share for #InverteFest, and it's one of my favourites - a funky blue weevil (Eupholus schoenherri). I drew all those dots individually.
