btw you know what was really important last night. The game was on the BBC and we could all watch it. Imagine if folk missed that - *that* - because it was behind a paywall. Devastating. A crime.

I’m pretty unhappy with you too, @glasgowcc.bsky.social, given your unbelievably weak application of your powers to stop the torture of the city’s dogs and cats.

I do not claim to know why we are on this planet, but I am very certain we are not born to start a mission where we optimize every single little thing in our lives.

I think it's just not good for the spirit.

if someone took me aside and said hey rax that dumb flash tattoo you got for $50 when you were 19 is actually a nazi symbol. i would be at the shop getting it covered before they got the sentence all the way out. i would blow red lights the whole way there

I was on verge of getting a Twin Peaks owl symbol tattooed few years back. Realised it was close to a runic symbol that had been picked up by far right.

Trust me, if I HAD got it, then found that out, it’d have been getting covered up ASAP. You have a nazi tattoo you remove any doubt and get rid.
If someone gets a Nazi tattoo, they are a Nazi and support those ideologies.

This isn’t a complicated issue that requires debate.

Pretty wild that in the space of about 12 months English politics is shaping up to be a head to head between Green and Reform, replacing the old assumed LabCon axis.

And Scotland being more about how many votes can SNP and Greens get combined shows you once again we’re a different landscape.

I cannot recommend you enough to install the Wikipedia app on your devices and use it like you would any search engine. Nowadays they even have tabs so you can open many articles at once.

And, if you can, please donate to the foundation. It has survived the internet enshittification that way.
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

Also if the ultimate test of "are you a good dev" isn't how fast you work, why should the ultimate test of "is this a tool that helps people do good dev" be "it makes you faster"......?

I have a prediction that the most popular DevEx measures will be pretty useless in the AI era because they start with code writing as the only thing that matters and everything pushed out by that but key to AI usage -- evaluation, self regulation, creativity -- is pretty much ignored

Hiya, *people who already know how to code* using AI to make things by generating the code does not mean no one needs to know how to code anymore, that's no how this works

I do like Refused, but I have mixed feelings about a band on-stage talking about capitalism and class war when they’re charging £50 a ticket and £35 for a T-shirt 😕

Rare that I'll repost anything from the Times regarding trans people. But this rare moment of truth somehow slipped through.
Not only do trans people live in fear now, but as many as can are leaving the UK to find a safer home.
Imagine this was being done to you?
This is in the Times today

The UK Government wants to introduce a digital ID.
A thing on your phone that says you're allowed to work here.

A digital ID would be easier to fake than a paper one, because an image on your phone can't have stuff like holograms etc.

Unless...

I know the story today is ID cards… but nothing sums up Keir Starmer better than the story that he’s not attending the COP30 climate summit ‘cos he’s worried Nigel Farage will slag him off about it.

This is Labour’s Biden moment. He needs to go NOW to have any chance of avoiding what’s coming.

The best thing about vinyl revival is albums are back to 35-45mins. 60-70 minute CD albums had too much filler.
