Parent, white cisgender queer liberal, feminist/womanist, public servant, wilderness resident. Trying to be hopeful.
A moments relief from all the politics. Here is a morning view from my garage in Lake Placid, New York, winter wonderland.

Happy #Caturday from underneath my one eyed black cat. I was going to take a nap, but I forgot I had an espresso about an hour ago so I’m just lying here. I’m not thinking about Trump. I’m not thinking about Gaza. I’m not. I’m reserving space for myself.

Dawn at John Brown’s Farm, Lake Placid, New York, September 28, 2025. We must continue to fight.

Happy #Caturday round two after tea with a friend at a very fancy hotel.

Happy #Caturday. They had just spent 20 minutes arguing up for who got to lie on top of me. When they finally settled down, I realized I had to go to the bathroom.

No matter what happens on this earth, in this flawed and painful, limited life filled with love, grief, joy, agony, hope and despair...our souls will be free beyond and evermore. #peace #justice

On the ferry to Vermont, visiting a friend, doing something nice for myself. Peace and justice need emotional feeding. ❤️

I feel far from serene these days. Where is peace? Where is justice? ("Die Überlebenden" / "The Survivors" by Käthe Kollwitz 1923)

Today is the 4th day of #Kwanzaa. The principle is Ujamaa: (Cooperative Economics) "To build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together." Have a blessed day.

My 17-year-old son and me. He was 13 when he saw the video of George Floyd being murdered; developed an instant terror of the police and begged his father not to let the police kill him. What can we do? Our love will not protect him.

This morning, dawn through the snow-laden trees. The sky was magenta and a bit of orange--this photo doesn't capture its fury. -17°F and we're expecting "weather" in the #Adirondacks. The neighbors' trampoline is ready for winter bouncing.

I special ordered a five-pound block of paneer because you can't get paneer here in the Adirondacks. Please share paneer recipes! And yes, I know about palaak paneer. #recipes #paneer #adirondacks

My favorite short story of all time is "Roman Fever" by Edith Wharton. It tipped me into an obsession with Wharton in my 30s. I read everything I could get my hands on that she wrote. Such subtle viciousness, such elegance of words. "I had Barbara." #booksky

Today's library book: "The Wisdom of Sheep: Observations from a Family Farm," by Rosamund Young. I used to be a smalltime all-natural pig and chicken farmer, and am so excited to read this book.
