On July 3rd, astronaut Nichole Ayers photographed a rare Gigantic jet from the ISS. These upward directed electrical discharges extend 90-100 km high into the atmosphere.

I processed this image from the RAW file, adjusting the white balance, contrast and noise reduction.

🧵 I've been exploring more ideas around disordered discourse, one of them is how communities use doubt as a weapon to deny anything that threatens their group-think. It’s not about serious inquiry. This isn’t healthy scepticism. It’s about reaffirming identity and loyalty.

'Rhythm Nation' used to crash hard drives.
How a Janet Jackson song crashed laptops for 9 years
In 2001, Microsoft support employees made a shocking discovery: Janet Jackson's hit, "Rhythm Nation," could cause laptops to crash. New details have now come to light showing what was done about it.

Earth's rotation is being slowed by the tides. Length of the day increases about one second every 50,000 years while the Moon recedes about a mile to carry off its angular momentum. Over human timescales, the Earth's rotation follows a random walk and sometimes speeds up.
