Last night I shadow-dropped The God Engine Omnibus, compiling the entire trilogy, with new cover art and an exclusive world-building essay on the philosophy behind the series. Available in paperback and ebook, it's cheaper than buying each book! Let me know in the comments what you think about it!
We often confuse "complex" with "good" in fantasy. Sometimes the most impactful stories are built on simple, universal truths. Don't overcomplicate your themes. Keep the core raw and relatable. #writingtips

Worldbuilding detail often falls into two camps: bland or overwhelming. The trick is to hint at vastness without explaining every single tree and historical event. Leave room for the reader's imagination to fill in the gaps. Give them enough to build on. #writingtips

The biggest mistake new authors make? Believing every word they write is gold. It isn't. Learn to kill your darlings. Be ruthless in editing. Your story will thank you. #writingtips

Just watched a sci-fi film that utterly failed its ending. A good ending isn't just a wrap-up; it's the logical, emotional conclusion of everything that came before. If your characters haven't changed, or the stakes feel hollow, you missed the mark.

Rereading an old favorite and it reminds me: exposition dumps are like lukewarm coffee. Nobody wants them. Integrate your world's history and lore through character actions, dialogue, and natural discovery. Make them earn the knowledge. #writingtips

Magic systems. Here's a hot take: The more complex you make it, the more likely you are to trip over your own rules later. Keep it tight. Understood. Limit it. Then break it with purpose.
July 5, 2025 at 8:00 PM
Thinking about worldbuilding: your magic system is only as good as its limitations. If anything is possible, then nothing matters. Give your characters rules to break, and watch the story unfold. What's a magic rule you love (or hate) to see?

It's time someone said it: Most "writing prompts" are useless. They feel like homework. You want to write? Go write. Not everything needs a jumping-off point from someone else's vague idea. Find your own spark.

We talk about 'character arcs' but sometimes forget the simplest ones hit the hardest. The kid who just learns to believe in themselves is far more compelling than convoluted prophecies. What’s an underrated character arc for you?

Getting your own copies of your latest book never gets old. It's like Christmas in April, and it's no April's Fool's joke! Look at this beauty *says in proud papa voice while people ugh at him vigorously*

(no audio because my kids kept shouting in the background)

Is piracy the ultimate marketing tool for creative works, instead of a profit killer? Let's look at the manga and anime industry and a few more examples (not advocating, just wondering)

As a 41 year-old male, I'm probably way too emotionally invested in high school romance/sports manga. But damn, Blue Box and Komi-san are freaking awesome.

Whoa, Thralls of a Tyrant God has made it to the #1 spot of the Amazon free rankings for both Classic Fantasy and Military Fantasy, and #6 for Contemporary Fantasy Fiction. Can I make it to #1 in that category too? You can help make it so, at the total cost of $0.00 and two clicks. Are you a hero?

Terrible book pitches someone should totally run with, part 1:

What if there was a dating app to match regular people with vampires so they get willing groupies to feed on and avoid murder.
And it's called...

I'm just now catching up to Coldplay's albums beyond A Rush of Blood... (to me, Parachutes and AROBTTH are their peak and X&Y was a travesty) and damn it, most of Viva La Vida works as a soundtrack for Epic Fantasy due to its late medieval/early renaissance themes.

The Name of the Shadow is now # 1 on Classic Science Fiction ebooks on Amazon! Pick it up for free for the next few days to help me keep it there :). If you like it, I have a few more (unrelated) SF and Fantasy books.
