HOLLOW GATE (1988): Finished off this year's viewings with a SOV no-budget slasher mostly set during a Halloween party. Just the right pace for late-night. Via Tubi. Another October filled with frightfully fantastic flicks is complete! But the horror season never really ends. #HHype2025 Pt XXXIX

HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH (1982): Forever a favourite and a perfect way to set the vibe for a Halloween night ahead. The score remains hypnotic and Tom Atkins so far out of pocket in the best way. A blast from start to finish. Via @screamfactory.bsky.social 4K UHD #HHype2025 Pt XXXVIII

HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION (2002): The worst of the franchise, and it's not especially close. And yet, still has some charms (the prologue, Busta, the overall early-00s dated-ness). Always fun to dip into a major horror franchise on Halloween day. Via @hollywoodsuite.bsky.social #HHype2025 Pt XXXVII

FREDDY VS. JASON (2003): Late night background watch. A battle for the ages! Such high anticipation for this match-up. Probably made a decade too late, but ended up being mostly solid. Credit to Ronny Yu. Bonus points to the wonderful Monica Keena. Via @hollywoodsuite.bsky.social #HHype2025 Pt XXXVI

THE CHURCH (1989): A long overdue watch. This collab of Soavi/Argento/Ferrini/Goblin was as great as hoped. Gorgeously shot, gloriously nonsensical, fun performances and plenty of gnarliness. Via Tubi (now want to buy the 4K UHD). #HHype2025 Pt XXXV

SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004): A reliable favourite. This time I watched with the audio commentary from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg - highly enjoyable throughout. Looking better than ever via this 4K UHD edition from Universal. #HHype2025 Pt XXXIV
October 31, 2025 at 6:39 PM
HACK-O-LANTERN (1989): Enjoyed a mid-day double feature on Hallow'Eve, starting with this no-budget charming slasher. An ancestral satanic cult, horny teens, bad acting, music videos, horrible stand-up comedy. This has it all! A new seasonal favourite is born. Via Tubi. #HHype2025 Pt XXXIII

THE BLOB (1958): First time watching the original. Can now confirm I enjoyed the excellent 80s remake more, but this one has a ton of gloopy charm as well. Via @hollywoodsuite.bsky.social #HHype2025 Pt XXXII

EVIL DEAD (2013): Made it to 31+ films in October again! Celebrated by dipping into the most consistent franchise in horror. This visceral interpretation is best watched at full volume. 😈 My review from 2013 still applies - boxd.it/18xMx. Via @screamfactory.bsky.social 4K UHD. #HHype2025 Pt XXXI

HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT 2 (1987): Came across a miraculous HD remaster of this reliable fave on YT. The transfer was a revelation after only seeing muddy versions over the years. A sequel in name only, that's always a delightful watch. Mary Lou is an all-time horror villain. #HHype2025 Pt XXX

NIGHTMARES (1980): Time for some Ozploitation via this sleezy slasher. Enjoyed the theater/play setting and the steady clip of slashes. POV usage/ influence from Halloween is clear. Via @umbrellaent.bsky.social Blu-ray. #HHype2025 Pt XXIX
October 30, 2025 at 10:23 AM
THE TINGLER (1959): About time I watched some Vincent Prince this month. This team-up with William Castle is a ton of fun and ideal for a relaxed Sunday morning viewing. If only I could watch with the full "Percepto" experience. Via @tcmtv.bsky.social. #HHype2025 Pt XXVIII

CANNIBAL GIRLS (1973): Back-to-back '73 flicks. Finally watched this early #canuxploitation debut from Ivan Reitman. Starring SCTV legends Eugene Levy & Andrea Martin. Good low-budget fun. Ideal viewing on game day for the Blue Jays in the WS. Via @cipictures.bsky.social Blu-ray #HHype2025 Pt XXVII

HOLLYWOOD 90028 (1973): Wow. Not truly horror but many chilling moments. This rediscovered gem (restored by @grindhousefilm.bsky.social) blew me away. Deliberate, immersive, stunningly filmed, acted & scored. The final shot is a gut-punch all-timer. Via Mubi (also on Tubi) #HHype2025 Pt XXVI
October 26, 2025 at 1:40 AM
28 YEARS LATER (2025): Boyle and Garland's return to zombie chaos delivered and more. Brutal in all the right ways, with an especially strong opening and final act. The score and Ralph Fiennes' performance are also highlights. I'm ready for more of these. Via Crave. #HHype2025 Pt XXV
October 25, 2025 at 9:30 PM
COMPANION (2025): Watched this earlier in the year and felt it was worthwhile to revisit and see how a certain twist plays in retrospect. Still plenty enjoyable and a fine way to kick off a Friday off work. Via Crave. #HHype2025 Pt XXIV
October 25, 2025 at 9:10 PM
DRAG ME TO HELL (2009): Far too many years since I last watched this. Holds up excellently. Wild madcap madness from Sam Raimi, always his strong suit. The most intense PG-13 horror film of all time? Via @screamfactory.bsky.social 4K UHD. #HHype2025 Pt XXIII
October 25, 2025 at 7:21 PM
FINAL DESTINATION BLOODLINES (2025): Multiple fun set-pieces and mutilations. What more could one ask from this franchise? RIP to horror legend Tony Todd. His scene was a major highlight. Via Crave. #HHype2025 Pt XII
October 25, 2025 at 6:55 PM
X: THE MAN WITH X-RAY EYES (1963): Enjoyed this Roger Corman classic a lot. The second Ray Milland-starring flick I've watched this month. A fun snapshot of the early 60s with copious psychedelic visuals, Don Rickles as a carnie and a quick running time. Via Tubi. #HHype2025 Pt XXI
October 25, 2025 at 2:08 AM
NIGHTMARE WEEKEND (1986): Ludicrously incomprehensible. Featuring a great score, much horniness, stilted acting, a very advanced computer and perhaps the best puppet in film history? I just rolled with it. Recommended! Via @vinsyn.bsky.social Blu-ray. #HHype2025 Pt XX
October 19, 2025 at 9:08 PM
THE FIRST POWER (1990): Didn't remember much about this. Other than renting it with my friend in 1994 and watching it with his whole family that weekend. A wild choice that was. Pretty good! Featuring the most menacing use of a ceiling fan outside of TWIN PEAKS. via Tubi. #HHype2025 Pt XIX
October 19, 2025 at 8:49 PM
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981): Somehow hadn't watched this during prior Octobers (at least since I started tracking them). It remains fantastically fun with all-time great practical fx. Also love the dreary UK filming locations. Via @arrowvideo.bsky.social blu-ray. #HHype2025 Pt XVIII
October 19, 2025 at 1:21 AM
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993): Nice to mix in a cozier Halloween flick with the usual macabre madness that I fill the month with. More thoughts here: boxd.it/boTkPn. Via Disney+ #HHype2025 Pt XVII
October 18, 2025 at 1:41 PM
FASCINATION (1979): My long-belated introduction to the erotic-horror maestro Jean Rollin.
An entrancing late-night watch.
Need to watch many more of these. via @shudder.com. #HHype2025 Pt XVI

Not counting them as part of my official #HHype2025 viewings, but thoroughly enjoyed playing a few hours of various GHOUL LOG editions from @shudder.com in the background while working this week. Ideal autumnal vibes
