If modern day Republicans were interviewed during WW2:

Reporter: "Hitler is gassing Jews. Are you against that?"

Republican: "This is why your ratings are so bad."

Republican Senator Schmitt says he’s ‘not familiar’ with a front-page pardon, then calls it ‘Democrat talking points.’

Authoritarian math:

If the facts are bad → deny knowing them

If pressed → attack the messenger

If cornered → yell about ratings

It’s been a few, we see the pattern.

I wish they'd immediately kick these people off the show and then explain exactly why. This is insane on so many levels. That guy is unworthy of American citizenship let alone an elected office!

At that point just end the interview, what’s the point anymore with these people?

If they pretend they haven’t heard about the story of the day, end the interview right there.

“I’m sorry, Senator, we wanted to get your perspective on this story, but it seems you’re not fully aware of what’s going on.”

Listen to the clip. Instead of immediately shutting him down when he lies that he hadn’t heard about the pardon of the Honduran president who was convicted of a conspiracy to smuggle 400 TONS OF COCAINE, Stephanopolous lets him spew insanities about how this one boat was the existential threat.

Both of them.

Stephanopoulos lets him rant on for over a minute and then lets him go on again after making his point while refusing to look him in the eye (whatever that counts for on TV).
