Gen Z, (L)GBT audiobook narrator
Pinned
Hey Bluesky! I'm a Gen Z, (L)GBT audiobook narrator based near Chicago. My favorite books are sapphic YA titles and would love to work in Fantasy soon. Fun fact: I recorded my first audiobook demo in a barn in Germany. I think you can hear geese in the background. Long story.

As an audiobook narrator it makes my job harder too. The marketplace is flooded with books written with chatgpt now. When I see a cover with AI art, that's a BIG red flag. Now I need to go on a deep dive to figure out if your book is even REAL. You're jeopardising your own integrity as an author.

Good hydration, proper technique, lots of throat-coat tea, performing arcane rituals to ward off the common cold, and planned vocal rest days. 😅
i can feel myself getting a sore throat from reading out loud for too long like how do audiobook narrators do this omg

As a narrator I end up untangling a lot of mangled idioms, and I have now devised my own to sum up the experience:

If we can’t read passages from our favorite classic novels aloud to one another whilst enjoying dark chocolate tiramisu and a bottle of Château Margaux in front of a crackling fire in a Victorian mansion during a full moon on a cold winter’s night, then what’s the point?

Finally watched Arrival last night and I really think we should be allowed more big-budget films about linguistics.
