Just finished this signed book of poems by @valeriesmithpoetry.bsky.social that I got from my wife the other week. It’s fantastic and creative and I feel like every poem is just right. I love how many different kinds of poetry are in this one book.

Pat Ingoldsby has a great knack for writing poems that _only_ Pat Ingoldsby could write.
A poem called Nearly Gone by Pat Ingoldsby NEARLY GONE Such a cold wave of lonely came up inside me today that I went down to see myself in the Wax Museum. The curtains were open on the big window so I stood outside in the fading light and peered in. There I was, over at the far side of the Writers' Room, in the warm, sitting with one leg up on the other, and a lovely pair of shoes. "It's well for you" I said. "There's a hole in one of mine. I have a plastic bag around my foot to keep my sock dry." I looked in at me for a while until it began to feel a bit weird. Then I trundled my trolley full of books home and fed the cats. A wax figure of Pat Ingoldsby form the Irish wax museum. It shows Pat seated with one leg resting on the other holding a newspaper. A book open to a poem by Pat Ingoldsby called Willow Publications. Two gray tabby cats sit in the background. The text of the poem is as follows: WILLOW PUBLICATIONS with the heat off - 15.12.1997 I am sitting at my purple table with two jumpers on me because it is cold and it is early and Willow is sitting brightly ginger under my red lamp because it is warm. He is looking into my printer and watching a white page stuttering itself into a poem. Hoot is not involving himself in this one at all. He is still asleep on the red bean bag dreaming about turf fires which don't go cold at three o'clock in the morning. The postman will be here soon.

Moments after I picked up the Pat Ingoldsby book, the cats were all over me, very appropriately. I’ve so many great memories of reading Pat’s poems in various places over the years.
I hold a collection of poems by Pat Ingoldsby called In Dublin They Really Tell You Things in my left hand as my gray tabby cat Misu sits on my leg. The book has a white cover with a high contrast image of Pat wearing a hat on the front.

Something I always enjoy when there’s snow is catching occasional reflections of the fireplace that make seem like there’s an impossible fire in the garden. My wife incorrectly assumed I was recording something of actual interest, which as usual, was not the case.

Zones in order of psychological safety:

- Comfort zone
- Learning zone
- Panic zone
- The Twilight Zone
- Metal Zone 🤘

This is from Juniper Hill’s Becoming Creative, and I do really like the idea of calling it the learning zone, but we need a few other zones before panic please, that’s alarming.
James Neill (2004) posits that beyond the comfort zone there is a “learning zone” in which individuals challenge themselves and take risks in a supportive environment with successful outcomes, but beyond the edge of that learning zone there is a “panic zone.”

It only lasted 5 minutes but baby did nod off listening to this instrumental version of Unintended by Muse. I have lots of memories of this song over the last 20 years - the best is that I played it at my sister’s wedding as she walked down the aisle!

I learned this tune about 10 years ago from a field recording somebody posted on tumblr, what I recall is the player on the recording said “I don’t know the name of this one, it’s a little bit like Hen Cackle”. Super fun. Does not trigger baby to sleep.
