6 and a half years ago, a friend wanted Les Mis as a Muppet movie, but with finger puppets and only one human character. I promised to do it, although I had no idea how.

A "x" kettle? I could have sworn I typed "stovetop" there.
Americans don't do electric kettles, as a rule. Why? It's an enduring mystery; they just never caught on this side of the Pond. A x kettle heats up as fast as an electric on an induction hob; otherwise the µwave is probably the fastest way to boil water reliably found in American kitchens.
