This has happened before. In 1997, the new Labour government was faced with massive problems to fix and had to make tough decisions to put things right. But from day one they were criticised in the interests of "balance" with the previous government.

Example: My wife has Lymphedema in her legs. One leg became inflamed and she went to A&E. Triaged, put in an Adult Assessment Unit for 2 days. Needed intravenous antibiotics meaning several days in hospital. This time discharged but came back for 4 "outpatient" drips. Massive savings and freed beds.

Been there in the first Thatcher term. Stupid cuts lead to the need to recruit more workers in higher grades to fix the problems caused by the cuts! An old saying applies "The ship sank for a halfpenny of tar" Scrimping for the sake of it is foolish.

The events in my Father-in-Law's life sustain this history. Born 1932 in Bruchsal, Germany he never went to school. Some children chopped of part of a finger as he was a Jew. 1940 he was deported with his father to Gurs. The full story of his survival cannot be written in the limit of this message.

But a few Billion can be spent on the Navy contracting to build Tent Detention Camps or helping out a friendly South American country or spending the tax money on beating up and detaining people living in the US!

50 years ago I started work in a Jobcentre at the time the Racial Discrimination Act came into force. I thought how long would it be until the population would take to accept non-white people fully into society. My guess was 100 years, well we are halfway there.
