He/Him. Mediocre Old One: Call of Cthulhu RPG & videogame writer, Chaosium Community Ambassador, Pendragon squire, rampant herbivore. My dogs say hi.
But in addition, Greg Stafford’s brilliant and passionate system design with dynastic play means that there are 75 years of adventure in the box, from the death of Uther to the fall of Arthur. I can’t think of a single other box set that offers that much playability with just the contents at hand.

I think the first edition of Pendragon remains the most beautiful box set in the history of the roleplaying game art form. Gorgeous cover by Jody Lee, innovative but clean layout by Yurek Chodak, wonderful full colour map by Charlie Krank and above all the romantic interior art by Lisa Free.

A perfect moonlit Halloween seeing @realgdt.bsky.social Frankenstein at the Star Cinema Eaglehawk. What a thrill to see a marvelous new version of Mary Shelley’s 200-year-old story in a 125-year-old venue.

Who'd knew that annoying squires would be so popular? My not-serious publication Squires Rampant on the Companions of Arthur community content program for Pendragon has hit Electrum sales. Huge thanks to all who've taken these vexing squires into their care.

Funnily enough, a group of friends gave Penny & I a collection of games for our 50th, and lo and behold, there was an original box set. What a treasure. But I can’t claim it as bring in my first 3.

I loved this ol’ hardcover to pieces.

What were your first 3 #TTRPGbox sets, you say?

1. D&D Basic Set (B/X - Moldvay)

2. D&D Expert Set (B/X - Moldvay)

3. RuneQuest Borderlands

All three still slap.
(Not my original D&D box, a middle-aged nostalgia buy; but my original Borderlands, never parted with that and never will.)

It’s so bloody good to be back in Sartar again. I feel like me in 1983, discovering RuneQuest for the first time. (No griffins were harmed in this combat, it had a go at Mago then flew off.)

Here’s looking at you, West.

Hilarious night watching Re-Animator on a comfy couch at the Star Cinema Eaglehawk. I’ve seen it before so did not need to hide behind said couch.

Do you run Pendragon? Do you need more adventures, or are you inspired to write one yourself? The Companions of Arthur community content program is the place for both those things! Right now we're getting ready for Pentecost, the questiest time of the year.

Back in the 1980s Penny ran a fantastic RQ Vikings campaign, and in 2012 Pedro Ziviani wrote Mythic Iceland, setting it firmly in the land of Grettir & Egil. It's back as Age of Vikings, a standalone Chaosium RPG fuelled by fire, ice, and the Basic Roleplaying system. I cannot wait to start a saga.

It’s been a few decades, but what a blast to see the band Superchunk @superchunk.bsky.social play the Corner Hotel in Melbourne again. Their 1993 album No Pocky For Kitty produced with heart and crunch by Steve Albini is my favourite record of all time. Glad to say they still absolutely rock.

The Mythos is afoot in London! I was delighted to unfurl this huge poster version of Alyssa Faden’s superb London map from the Cthulhu by Gaslight Investigator’s Guide. The one in the book is dandy, but the upsize detail is stunning. The investigators may get eaten, but at least they won’t get lost.
