For this Sunday's edition of @status.news, I spoke to @davejorgenson.bsky.social about leaving The Washington Post, the state of the Jeff Bezos-owned paper, and launching a new media venture he hopes can become a "Daily Show" for the social era.

Dave Jorgenson, The Post’s viral “TikTok guy,” explains why he left the paper to launch Local News International—and how he hopes to build a "Daily Show" for the social era.

Big names, vets and emerging journalists heading for the lifeboats of Bezos’ Post while he cruises the Med. #newspaper #democracydiesindarkness
A newspaper wrecked on purpose.
POLITICO compiled a list of all the Washington Post staffers who have left in the past eight months. It’s at least a hundred names, many of them among the biggest names in journalism. This is the fastest erosion of a major outlet ever.

Dave is the best authority on syndicated #cartoonists and editorial cartoonists I know. He covered the industry for many years for Editor & Publisher magazine, where dad Bob Mathes worked for 22 years. My pleasure to relaunch Terry & the Pirates in my own career as editor at Tribune Media Services.
My latest blog post about books is not really about books. Instead, it links to a 2015 video interview in which I discussed my memories of meeting various well-known cartoonists and columnists. Dan St.Yves @thatdanguy1111.bsky.social asked the questions. 🙂

If you’ve seen “The Librarians,” you’ve seen Suzette holding @richove.bsky.social “Burning the Books: A History of the Deliberate Destruction of Knowledge.” Now read his analysis of book banning in Trump’s America and the contagion it’s spreading around the world.

Since 2020, the United States has seen a precipitous rise in book bans, often specifically targeting the works of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors. In response, Under the Radar with Callie Crossley launched t...
