@financialtimes.com on how UK OBR has downgraded UK growth projections - which have been consistently over-optimistic. Labour annoyed its happened now, whilst Hunt was able to use more optimistic estimates to fund NI cuts.

I would use downgrade to revisit NI cuts. But don't expect it to happen.

Sarah O'Connor in today's @financialtimes.com about how iPhones are too big for many women's' (and quite a few men's) hands. A good example of gendered exclusion in product design.

Climate change is serious, and the @rescoop.eu team are working hard to develop citizen based solutions. But we aim also to be joyful, optimistic, energetic, practical and ethical in our work.

89% of people globally think climate change action needed. But media frequently doesn’t reflect this reality. @janrosenow.bsky.social

First @rescoop.eu board meeting as president, with Ilonka @saratachelet.bsky.social and Daan in person (at brilliant Mundo EP Europe building) and others joining online. Planning our work for rest of year and welcoming four new members to our growing family of co-ops.

Thank you Krakow. I also learned much about Polish history - and was inspired by their story of national resilience.
May 25, 2025 at 4:04 PM
I had a single day at the end to explore Krakow, and toured the city museum with da Vinci’s magical lady with an ermine

Learned so much. Moist eyes when @dirkvansintjan.bsky.social gave his last speech as president. And a late night after. 50 of us walked into an empty bar and stayed until after 1:30am.

Thank you to those who voted for us at @energy4alluk.bsky.social giving us 85% of votes behind the brilliant Ecopower BE.

Stress of @rescoop.eu election (for those of us standing) and also for those organising

How to persuade people who don’t share your values.

Memorable moments - when Ukrainian delegate explained how 35m fellow citizens discovered the dangers of a centralised energy system. 10 GW destroyed and >2,000 hours of blackouts
May 25, 2025 at 3:40 PM
A massive vote of thanks in the room to @dirkvansintjan.bsky.social for 12 years hard work

Back from @rescoop.eu event in Krakow. Joyful, informative, sobering, professional, imaginative.

I was there last week and definitely noticed a difference - and lots of cyclists too...

Was in Strasbourg last year. The city tram system runs into the neighbouring German town of Kehl across the Rhine (effectively the same urban area).

Photo is of statue to German/French friendship in the park.

I'd add that median incomes in many EU countries now comfortably above UK. Resolution Foundation done a lot of work on this issue.

But stats don't measure quality of life - here are a couple of photos from nearby vegetable and fish markets in our small town by way of example.

Back in Portugal after 10 months. Many more solar farms - but also wind farms too (they are easier to see admittedly). Can see over > 50 turbines 10 minute walk from where we live (a few in the photo below if you look carefully).

And here are a couple of photos from my last time in Paris. First is of work underway, second of street around the corner where road space taken out. Lots of shops, people walking, and a lovely feel.

As ex-local gov manager I loved seeing this display in the entrance of our local (rather brilliant) local government run sports centre and swimming pool. Highlighting UN sustainable development goals. Well done Lagos council.
