Today was the hardest day of my life. We fought for nearly a decade to bring secure bike parking to NYC and ultimately were completely excluded from the @nyc-dot.bsky.social process for citywide system. To those who believed in us and our vision, I am so sorry.

I am profoundly grateful for the support. As some of you have requested, I am releasing our full secure bike parking proposal publicly for NYC. We did not take anything for granted-- we partnered with global leaders in London and Paris as well as Motivate + others

The shift to cargo bike logistics is great, but it requires a parallel shift in infrastructure.

When you replace a delivery van with a cargo bike, you are moving freight capacity from the road to the bike lane. If you don't expand the bike lane to handle it, you're just creating a bottleneck.

All three of these public routes (street, bikelane and sidewalk) are necessary for our residents & we shouldn’t prioritize the mobility & safety of those who can/do drive over everyone else.

For livability, equity, safety and climate goals we should invest in municipally plowed sidewalks.

I continue to be impressed with Volvo acknowledging these issues and working to offer solutions where city infrastructure designers often fail.

The fact that Volvo is acknowledging this is huge and I applaud them for it. It’s frustrating that cab-over designs, which offer superior visibility, are largely unpopular and marginalized in the current North American marketplace.
In tight spaces or heavy traffic, it’s not always easy to see who’s near. Active Side Collision Avoidance Support uses radar to detect cyclists or pedestrians on the sides. If someone’s there, it warns you or even steps in to brake if needed so you can keep others safe, even when visibility is low.

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Supreme Court: We’ll not only pursue you mercilessly over the theft of a loaf of bread, we’ll support cutting off the aid that would’ve enabled you to buy a loaf of bread.
Never saw "Les Mis," but the book Les Misérables focused on a relentless pursuit of a man who stole a loaf of bread.

As we cut SNAP benefits while calling for harsher penalties on shoplifters, it's tough not to see parallels.

We're living under some very dark clouds IMO. 💔

We still have a ways to go in winning more popular support for bike lanes, but what Michelle Wu's beatdown of Josh Kraft showed us is that bike lanes simply aren't a motivating political issue for most people. I hope this is something that will give leaders more backbone when facing opposition.

Opinion: Who hijacked Halloween?

A key benefit of wide bike infrastructure is that it's cheaper and more efficient to maintain.

When a bike lane is wide enough for standard city sweepers and plows, you don't need a separate, specialized fleet.

Good design is fiscally responsible.
