Trains, music, film, theatre. Environmentally green, politically left of centre but well to the right of the real nutters. Retired and very opinionated!
It’s reputationally toxic too.

It just projects uncertainty and incompetence - not characteristics we want to see in any government or its leaders.

Does anyone pay any attention to what The Standard says any more?

It’s a sorry and pathetic rag that people have clearly demonstrated has no future.

Honesty isn’t a value I naturally associate with anyone from Reform.

Lowering the thresholds is exactly the opposite of what they need to do to win back trust.

I mean *100%* the wrong thing.

If they stick 1p on the basic rate and 2p or even 3p on the next band and so on, yet raise the lower threshold to, say, £15,000, I think they’d probably have got away with it.

This is just cementing in voters’ minds that the whole operation is shambolic.

They’ve had a year to sort out exactly what they need to do and to prepare the ground - both internally within the party and externally - for any difficult choices.

They’ve screwed up - again.

Mastermind McSweeney?

How many times will we see variations of this headline over the next few years?

‘Reform UK (*fill in as appropriate) plans crumble under scrutiny.’

Because housing developers moaned about it costing a couple of quid more and, instead of standing their ground as they should have done, they have caved.

Again.

And so next time the developers don’t like something, they know the same thing will happen.

Watch them water down Section 106 next.

Jenkins just comes across as arrogant and smug. Well done for keeping going despite his attempted interjections.

We all know that these flags are there to intimidate.
November 13, 2025 at 1:46 PM
If the approach doesn’t change, the same thing will happen sooner or later - whatever charisma and charm an incoming leader may have.

And if Starmer is to continue, he’ll have change direction and dump the Blue Labour influence, including McSweeney. These people barely belong in the party anyway.

They seem to be having trouble with the difference between the words ‘apologise’ and ‘sympathise’.
November 13, 2025 at 1:22 PM
In the immortal, much-quoted (and here pluralised) words of Mandy Rice-Davies:

“They would say that, wouldn’t they?”
November 13, 2025 at 1:19 PM
Well that’s a step in the right direction.

They represent an utterly pointless level of bureaucracy that’s added nothing to the quality or efficiency of policing in this country.

All ours seems to do is photo opps.

If the last 12 months are anything to go by, he’s as much a genius as Donald Trump.
November 13, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Well it’s certainly off my travel agenda for as long as Mango Don is sitting in the White House.

This, in my most humble opinion, is the best song he has ever written.

And the guitar playing is possibly the finest example in all of rock music of the guitar and player becoming one, wrenching note after note from deep within.

I judge on actions, not words.

We’ve had years of empty promises. Until we start to see many more NHS dental appointments freed up and more dentistry graduates finding positions, I’ll not be celebrating having turned a corner.

Please keep the pressure on!
November 13, 2025 at 8:39 AM
Well if that’s the calibre of people involved in Blue Labour (🤮) and they’re providing key guidance to current policy direction, then I’m not surprised we’re in the shit.

Crass, stupid and utterly misguided.
November 12, 2025 at 4:50 PM
My goodness that’s tasteless.
November 12, 2025 at 4:46 PM
It’s the distinction between being the wealthiest country in the world and having a lot of people with incredible personal wealth.

The wealth doesn’t belong the country, it belongs to the greedy rich bastards who hoard it and use it solely to extort more.
November 12, 2025 at 3:09 PM
With the current state of the party I fear any challenger will be more like the Titanic’s deck chair attendant than the captain.
November 12, 2025 at 2:23 PM
It seems to me the big shift in recent years has been from reporting the actual stuff that’s happening to reporting on people who disagree about the stuff that’s happening.

This artificial, confected ‘he said this, she said that’ coverage swamps every news bulletin and tells us absolutely nothing.
