Tesla has some good people working on sustainability and human rights. Who would want listen to them again after their boss operated like this?

Not great for the Tesla brand. Also, compete BS.

Here's another sick read. BCG's "Code of Conduct", and a message from its CEO Christoph Schweizer. Or maybe these values don't apply anymore?

The FT's reporting on BCG's involvement in plans for post-war Gaza, including the mass displacement of Gaza's is mind-blowing. www.ft.com/content/d35d...

Esther Kiobel has issued the following statement in response to news that Nigeria’s president has pardoned her late husband and 8 other men, including writer Ken Saro-Wiwa. They were hanged in 1995 after being falsely accused of murder.

David Lammy says Shell and the FCDO have a “strong shared endeavour”. This is ridiculous. Is Britain’s foreign policy now going to be set by Big Oil?

I like Lammy, but wtf?

But experts estimate that only 7% of the oil has been removed from the ground and say significant contamination remains, posing a serious public health risk to the community. This is now seeking a new clean-up - which could cost up to half a billion pounds.

These ruptured under the water of Bodo's creek. The damage destroyed the creek's mangroves and fishing grounds. In 2014, Shell - which earlier this year sold its onshore business in the Niger Delta - admitted liability for the spills and agreed to a clean-up operation as part of a £55m settlement.

On both occasions the spills ran for about two months before the company sent contractors to stop them and contain the pollution. Both spills were caused by corrosion to the Trans Niger Pipeline, which carries crude from oil fields scattered across the Niger Delta to the coast.

An important environmental justice case underway in London today. At the Royal Courts of Justice, Laz Tamana of the Bodo community explained why the community is taking Shell to court over what they allege has been its failure to clean up two massive spills in 2008.

Then there’s this Rwandan tea, sold by a UK company that’s branded as “Virunga”. That’s in the DRC, which is a country that Rwanda has invaded.

An interesting man, Henri Deterding, who headed Royal Dutch Shell from 1900-1936, and helped turn it into one of the world's biggest companies. His memoirs, "An International Oilman" (1934) starts with a gushing portrait of Mussolini and ends with this...

Thanks to @lselaw.bsky.social & the Grantham Institute for organising yesterday's panel discussion on the case brought by Nigerian communities affected by oil pollution against Shell here in London. @amnesty.org has stood with these communities for the past decade and we will continue to do so

This community tap in Ogale is connected to a 150m deep borehole. The water stinks of benzene and is staining the white tiles. Imagine having to drink this.

Shell refuses to clean up pollution from King Bebe Okpabi’s home town in Nigeria. As a result people have to drink poisoned water. That’s why they’re suing the company in London.

King Bennett Okpabi of Ogale in Nigeria on the importance of today’s case against Shell
February 13, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Last month I was in Ogale, and came across these taps, providing borehole water to the community. You can see how dirty the water is by the stains on the tiles, and the water stank of benzene. This is the impact of spills and woeful clean up - over many decades
