Wondering where to get a fencing pell like that shown in this video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwPg...) @justinaucoin?

New achievement unlocked; ride through a tack failure. Stirrup broke mid canter.

Today's equestrian insight. Full seat britches and full seat canter do not mix well

Pondering Fiore's mounted boar's tusk (wiktenauer.com/wiki/Fiore_d...). On foot the beat seems to rely on a the sword traversing the width of the body - as the sword rises from lower left to upper right it beats the opponents blade. ) /1

Mounted archery practice again today. I'm thrilled that my mind is split between "how can I ride this better" and "how can I make this shot". Did adequately at both, but not well at either. Need to make more opportunities for practice.

I've set myself a daily challenge of five good shots with the javelin (sticking in the target). Today it only took me 25 tries to get 5 good shots. Key seems to be to point my elbow and the opposite hand at the target and for my throwing hand to pass by my ear.

The prong of the ming ring tries to press against the squashed flat finger rest; it isn't a big impediment, but it doesn't help. I should try with my manchu ring

While I like my new arrows, with the new style speed nock (I can't find a name or image, but there is a finger sized flat area between the prongs of the nock and the base of the arrow - makes it _really_ easy to grab and load) they aren't good for speed rounds with a ming ring.

Yesterday's folly - I have some garden stakes that I'm using to build a backdrop for the targets. I managed to put an arrow through one. Don't leave anything in the target zone.

Achievement unlocked! 8 arrows in 30 seconds. That will only happen if I make no errors in loading, and if I have the arrows prepared in the correct sequence. /1

I wish there were a way to filter bsky to screen out all video skeets. I feel like the tools are there, but I just haven't figured out how to do it.

Been going to a local(ish) mounted combat practice hosted by some SCA friends.

There primarily as a fencing expert for them but also getting saddle time myself. I’m enjoying learning how to ride and also collaborate with folks and adapt fencing on foot to fencing on a horse.

The weather here has officially changed from "technical fabrics for wicking" to "cotton". Rode circles yesterday for most of an hour just to figure out inside leg to outside rein. Progress, but this is an asymptotic task

Chrysoprase does not begin with a "J"! Why is the mainstream media silent about this?

Lovely SCA Equestrian practice yesterday. Worked on reeds & heads without reins. (heads without reins is going to require a bit more work). General agreement that we need to work on birja more. Thanks to @scrummycat.bsky.social #mysca #equestrian

Lovely ride today working on downward transitions and garrocha pole work. In a moment of insanity we trotted with the garrocha. We also worked on establishing a better working trot, and validated that _if_ we get a good working trot, then I can sit the trot.

94 arrows today. continuing to work on khatra and ensuring that I'm fully engaging my back.
Midway through I discovered that one of the arrows lost the tip and I drove an untipped arrowshaft into a 2x4 deeply enough that it stuck.

Mounted archery practice today. So very much fun! Need to work on speed regulation - as I rush to load arrows onto the quiver, my horse is sensing my speed and responding by rushing herself. I need to learn to regulate.

First lesson with the garrocha pole yesterday. What an eye opening revelation. What a great tool. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?

Also my first day back in saddle (vice bareback) - my ankles are so out of tone..... Good exercise & fun.

50 arrows today, practicing the new understanding of khatra. Half the time it produces excellent results; the other half merely satisfactory. Not sure what the variable is.

3) Aligning the arrow shaft with my eye/sightlines helps. Just as a lark I checked where my anchor point would be if I had an anchor point and it has returned to a point that is roughly behind my jaw/ear. Not quite a Yumi anchor, but that's where this bow stacks.

100 arrows today. Observations 1) Manchu ring gets sweaty at some point and in danger of slipping off my thumb. Wonder if a more porous ring (antler) would help. 2) Khatra really helps. I think the reason I shoot better in speed rounds is that I loose at the maximum expansion.
