The ideal candidates will have experience in signal processing (e.g., local field potentials from EEG/iEEG). General technical skills are also valuable.

The link above is to work primarily with Dr. Christopher Petkov, who has been a great mentor to myself and others. This role will involve working with a large team that includes me, Dr. Matthew Howard, and others!

Lastly, I'm always happy to answer questions about living in Iowa City, but the short answer is that it is a gem!

Current topics of interest to me include general cognitive ability, working memory, and personality. If studying any of these topics from the perspective of focal brain damage and/or intracranial electrical stimulation/recordings sounds exciting to you, please reach out!

May lab will benefit from access to existing data sets that make it easy to hit the ground running on projects. E.g.: The Iowa Neurological Patient Registry (our brain lesion registry, brain-registry.lab.uiowa.edu) & data from the Human Brain Research Lab (hbrl-neurosurgery.lab.uiowa.edu)
Iowa Neurological Patient Registry | The University of Iowa
Information about the Iowa Neurological Patient Registry (nicknamed the Iowa Lesion Registry) and its neuroscience, psychology, and neuropsychology research on patients with strokes, tumors, epilepsy,...

Depending on the project, these roles will be mentored by established "heavy hitters" of our Iowa neuroscience/neuropsych community, e.g., Matt Howard (neurosurgery chair), Chris Petkov, Aaron Boes (@boeslab), and/or Dan Tranel. I can personally vouch for them all as mentors.

It's a personal goal of mine to see that Iowa remains home to one of the best, if not the best, neuropsychology research groups in world, so you can expect me to relentlessly recruit others to join us here in our never-ending pursuit of discovery, teaching, & clinical service. I can't wait to start!

Where else can you find one of the world's largest brain lesion registries, intracranial electrical stimulation/neuromodulation, and human single neuron recording capabilities all under one roof? Add in the historic importance of neuropsychology at Iowa, and you have a truly uniquely environment.

My research will continue to feature lesion-deficit mapping and intracranial electrical stimulation. Iowa is one of the few places in the world where I can combine these two lines of research thanks to unwavering support (despite notably trying times) from all those involved in my recruitment.

My position will be 80% research, with a primary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and joint appointments in Neurology & Neurosurgery. I'm lucky to receive an offer from an institution that values the clinician-scientist model as much as I do, and I'll be recruiting soon to launch my lab!
