Shana Tova to all who celebrate. I’m grateful to have made this with my little one today, my entire world, and watched her small hands move in awe. My heart was heavy thinking of all the parents losing their entire worlds, looking at their small hands, no longer moving.

I remember a teacher in high school telling my class that our rights as humans don't stop when we enter the school. Schools and universities must be places where we continue to be who we are, not places where students are placed at risk of rights abuses.

NEW: Democracy faces serious and growing challenges, but it has significant capacity for renewal. This is one of the key reflections of the 2025 State of Civil Society Report from CIVICUS, the global civil society alliance.

Last time I attended Pride in Budapest was 2013. People — including families with children — braved Nazis to march. People will continue to push back in the face of unjust laws like these because despite these draconian measures, they are are organised in their solidarity.

"Restrictive executive orders, unjustifiable institutional cutbacks, and intimidation tactics through threatening pronouncements by senior officials in the administration are creating an atmosphere to chill democratic dissent."

This week, I've been working on a new CIVICUS Monitor Watchlist that will be released on Monday — featuring 5 countries where there has been a rapid decline in civic freedoms.

What are your guesses for countries that make the list?

It was particularly painful to watch because Zelenskyy did hear all of this from Putin. These were talking points from Russia and this was pretty much a conversation with Russia.

The US government is making its citizens so afraid, families like these feel forced to leave their homes for their kids’ safety.

Stories like this & data like this should be a shameful for elected representatives across the country.

From a comms perspective, really appreciate that influencers with (relatively) young followers are educating audiences on where to have free & accessible sources for news at the moment

Awful tidbit in this morning's Devex newsletter from the World Economic Forum. These are questions of climate action, health, basic human rights, and world leaders should have the skills to speak on these issues without breaking any unwritten political rules.

New from @hrw.org today: over a thousand children that the US government took from their parents 6 years ago STILL haven't been returned to them. This was enforced disappearance and torture committed by the architects of the family separation policy.
