‘Do the recombination changes facilitate the process of divergence between the two ecotypes?’ ‘Are the changes transient, side effect of selection for or against particular combinations of genetic variants?’ Or ‘do they reflect direct modifications of the recombination rates?’

We inferred recombination histories from genetic linkage in population data and combined these results with simulations to develop a new metric (PRDI) to quantify the amount of recombination rate evolution. We found a positive PRDI in our system, the answer is yes - recombination histories differ.

In this paper, we study recombination in the context of an early stage of speciation in cichlid fishes and ask the question: ‘do recombination histories differ between closely related population?
