The principal investigator of the #microANT project, Dr. Luis Cardona, presented the objectives and work carried out during the Antarctic campaign to the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, who visited the facilities of the JCI Antarctic base on Livingston Island.

The study of sediment samples and water column, feces 💩 from pinnipeds 🦭 and penguins 🐧, as well as stomach contents of fish 🐟 and crustaceans 🦐, will allow us to determine the transfer of microplastics along the food chain in the South Atlantic, in both pelagic and benthic environments.

En el centenario de la factoría (abandonada desde 1985 y hoy en ruinas), el #ConcelloDeCee y la #DeputaciónDeCoruña han instalado paneles explicativos, y han inaugurado una exposición retrospectiva sobre la historia de la pesca ballenera en Galicia
El legado de esta pesca en nuestro país es contradictorio: dio trabajo en tiempos de penuria, contribuyó al desarrollo económico y social de la zona, pero las poblaciones de #RorcualComún y #Cachalote resultaron tan impactadas que hasta hace una década no se han recuperado📉
