Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

Incredible the depths of darkness we find ourselves in
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Headline: California renters are very picky customers

How are they picky? Do they keep changing apts because of colors? Amenities?

Oh… it’s because of rising unaffordable rent.

This article is a reminder that "abolish ICE" isn't just about the agents now in our streets, but is about a sprawling carceral system that must be dismantled completely. There must be consequences for politicians who try to spend a single dollar more on this.

No mystery about what's happening here. Not hard to describe or understand. And yet we wait, passively, for someone to do something.
How far we've come in 69 days:
-Huge swaths of government illegally shut down
-President is refusing to promise to leave office
-Growing impunity for regime allies, targeted prosecutions at opponents
-Regime using funding and legal threats to subvert universities and law firms
-Corruption endemic

A green card holder and UW lab tech who immigrated from the Philippines 50 years ago detained at the border for over 3 weeks and counting. No one knows why.
This is the first case I’ve seen so far of a returning permanent resident detained without any acknowledged rationale (family says she has no prior convictions and that they haven’t been given any information)
Immigration crackdown now hitting green card holders
A former Hawaii resident, and longtime green card holder, is among those being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This is an important thread on colleges & universities standing up to Trump. Just wanted to add that some universities are quiet so as not to offend their donors. But the donors support Trump!
Universities need to treat the Trump administration's hostage lists as organizing lists. A large majority of the universities on these lists should issue a JOINT public response making clear that they won't give in and why they're right not to.

That creates space for the rest of the sector to join.
