"The more evidence about the chronic risk of climate change that's available, the better that FDA members and many others can carry out their duties across public service."

We’ve just seen a weekend of high political drama, which meant our motion at TUC Congress 2025 on standards in government was more prescient than expected.

An inspiring woman, I will be telling everyone about Jeanie Nassau Senior for years to come! It was a pleasure to represent @fdaunion.bsky.social at the installation of the new plaque here at Battersea Arts Centre
Speaking today at the unveiling of a plaque in honour of the first female civil servant, Jeanie Nassau Senior @margarethaig.bsky.social says Nassau Senior “spoke truth to power, championing the values we still defend as a civil service union today: integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality.”

Great thread about the continuing need for reform in relation to standards. I ❤️ the Nolan principles, but a properly constituted, independent Ethics Commission would provide transparency and confidence 🧵👇
As Nick Thomas-Symonds MP confirmed in answer to my question today at the @instituteforgovernment.org.uk conference on the Nolan Principles, the govt believes visibility is the key to ensuring future prime ministers do the right thing when it comes to the Ministerial Code.

As I told @civilserviceworld.bsky.social language is important in these situations & a former Defence minister accusing officials of appeasement undermines the difficult role that civil servants have to play in advising ministers on conflicts like Ukraine.

It was an absolute delight to speak to the CPS members of @fdaunion.bsky.social, an afternoon of fascinating debate from dedicated reps.
FDA President @margarethaig.bsky.social addresses the AGM highlighting the union’s recent report on the role of our CPS members’ in increasing RASSO prosecutions, which was recently endorsed by the TUC’s Women’s Conference.

A fascinating evening, commenting on 7000 responses to @FDA_union survey on UK civil service hybrid working, compared with private sector & Irish civil service. I was struck by the need for purposeful in-person working, and for tailored management skills & appropriate facilities
Launching our new report ‘The future of office work in the civil service’ @fdagensec.bsky.social says there is a huge prize for getting hybrid working right, including higher productivity and delivering for the public.

A great AGM for our NI Section, in cold but welcoming Belfast. I was so pleased to attend as current President.
It was great to welcome former Head of the NICS to speak to members at the FDA Northern Ireland Section AGM, who shared lessons on leadership he learned throughout his career in public service and looked towards future challenges facing public services in Northern Ireland.
