I don’t know why it’s persisted, but now I would advise any woman getting married not to adopt her husband’s last name.

It was actually more a coercive custom. There was actual pressure from society to change your name. I’m sure it would have raised issues in other ways too, financially because women didn’t have financial independence, joint ownership of property, etc.

Women, keep your passports current if you have one. If you don’t have one and you can afford it, get one. In the meantime every woman needs to track down her birth certificate and her marriage license. We should be having seminars on this.

At first I didn’t, but plenty of people had something to say. Then there was the question of financial security and credit and the kids. No one thing, but it was just simpler for a lot of reasons.

Exactly the kind of leadership we’ve come to expect from Trump in times of crisis. Point fingers at someone else. Engage in meaningless speculation. Stoke fear and/or resentment.

It doesn’t benefit them, but it’s time we faced it… Trump voters are America’s enemies. They hate this country because it doesn’t reflect their narrow white Christian idea of America.
