A very smart colleague just pointed out the grim truth that the U.S. leaving the WHO may ultimately be a win for the rest of the world. Why? Because without a vote, “the US can't block WHO actions like vaccine programs, disease surveillance, contraception, etc”. Man, that is daaaark, but accurate.

Politicians who moralise about “protecting kids” from “wokeness” are usually the most dangerous to them. They obsess about children “being corrupted” while pursuing policies to deny health care to trans kids, end public services for poor kids, and deport refugee kids. It’s sickeningly disingenuous.

Write to an incarcerated person. Call your senators or representative. Donate some gently used clothing or a couple new binders to an organization that helps trans kids find gender appropriate wardrobes. Volunteer at your local library. There are so many actual acts of resistance you can do.

Whenever marginalised groups talk back to people engaging in discrimination or abuse, they’re accused of “silencing,” “bullying,” or “cancelling.” When people in power say racist, misogynistic, or homo/transphobic things, they’re supported as “just expressing a different view.” It’s painfully gross.
