#SDR2025 slipping in that the UK should look to invest in terrestrial and co-orbital counter space systems..

How to fund and develop the capability after the submarine programme, GCAP, BMD? Given the threat and character of the UK economy & military power conceptually sensible if unrealistic ATM.

Fashionably late to the party, after just about a year's wait on a pre-order a box arrived. Very happy indeed.

Here's another and merely going by your snapshot I'd say yes that could well be a match. Colours depend on context as you can see here Pound also uses it.

That's his mark in 39, not sure that really is enough to take more away.

A very good read. As a one-stop primer on the oceans, the structure of the marine system the science behind it all this is an ideal introduction and useful adjunct reading for any Seapower course. On the list it goes.

Enjoyable, with informed speculation about how a permanent presence on the moon could unfold. 4 years after publication though the short term timeline is very dated already, even pre-pandemic 2020 the Artemis schedule was rather optimistic. Realistically add 10 years to any milestone.

Surprised by this arrival today, did not know this was happening. Rather good format and finish though, works really well as a softcover and on normal paper.

I'd agree. I had sketched out some general principles here in the chapter I did for:

Now though I am going back and detailed case examples across the 20th century through to today.

- this though was a normal level of analysis until 1-2 decades into the Cold War 2.) it was difficult to assess the impact of new technologies 8and still is).
I 've start to sketch out the parameters of the problem of gauging specific new capabilities at the time here:

Jan 1938 🇫🇷 naval appreciation of the German approach to raiding and battlegroup composition. Identified the German carrier(s) as a key component. French overestimating the Kriegsmarine's cruisers & destroyers' suitability for oceanic operations here though as there was no intention to send them out.

As it came up in a different context, both Darwin and Jones really are good background texts for any course on modern naval history or maritime security. The evolution of the maritime environment is largely neglected and these cover the socio-economic development in the last two centuries well.

First Infinity game in a good 6-months, easing in with the Operation Blackwind missions to get muscle memory back.

Musee National de la Marine - Toulon.

A small museum, very pleasant though. Tells the story of Toulon naval base exceedingly well. Also located in proximity to a wide selection of restaurants on the harbour front.

With the 46 boat force in FY2030 already being a downgrade from the current force, way off from the 2016 plan, the US Navy's submarine force will be below target numbers for a generation and projections out to mid-century are at best aspirational.

CRS report as always a good, though dense, read

The numbers outline really well what it takes to work up a carrier group. The considerable material, personnel and time requirements to have a credible aircraft carrier capability, and to maintain this effort to keep it.

@thierrybreton.bsky.social actual words on the maritime portion in his speech yesterday. Seabed/infrastructure defence ✅ consolidating design/manufacturing ✅

Under 'strategic enablers' think tankers/replenishment ships, large flight decks, medical facilities - doable & makes more sense than CVs.

RFA Proteus next to HMS Belfast for her dedication ceremony - really puts her size and embarked equipment into perspective.
