they would not have looked like this. natural paint is not this garish, and we have extant examples of paint on white stone in medieval and early modern churches, plus surviving greco-roman stuff that was either painted or made of multiple materials (inlaid glass or bronze eyes for example)

I'm saying that at best, "you are not acting according to the dictates of Jesus" means less than nothing to someone who doesn't worship him, and at worst it looks like this. Which, yeah, it's bigoted. Why should your religion be the universal values for every society?
