I'm ok with "representative" scale. I've thought about using one 28mm model to represent a company but then the artillery and especially the cavalry end up having a disproportionately huge footprint.

I've begun a 3mm If the Lord spares us project though! Need to get some Turks and scenery done.

Oh well, yeah if you're gonna cheat and go up to 28mm!
(Does look good though doesn't it?)

If the PVA sets well and the paint/varnish combo works i think I've got a decent paddy field method here.
Just gonna need a couple of days for the glue to set.

All the effort that goes into painting troops and all you'll ever really see is the flags and bases.
There's a lesson here somewhere...

Well here's an unexpected find in my old stash. A '97 ACW rulebook written "with assistance" from Arty Conliffe.
I've got a good start on a 28mm army but I'm starting to think I should get some 40x40 "movement trays" for these games...

Really can't argue with the look of the Warlord epics. Best not to dwell on the paint job (did I mention there's a couple of thousand to do?!)
December 7, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Probably a good idea to get a non-blurry picture...

I need paddy fields but what I have are sprues...
I'm building up the sides with the paste I made for my Mud and blood pillbox last month which proves that the mix has some life.
The paddy may be a bit tall but you know what they say about that;
Shut up.

This isn't my festive tank challenge tank, just a little practice one.
I've attempted Creighton Abrams Thunderbolt VII in 15mm. I can't seem to find a picture of THE tank but there are a lot of models which I assume are based on something more than pure guesses.
Anyway, not too bad.

Does a wash over grey spray work for a base colour? Hmm... yes. Downside is I only had a bit of spray and my "standard" regiments are 3 stands so these being southern units I'm not likely to have one 2 stands oversize.
Meh, I'll work it. The extras will have a lot of strips to hide among.

I went for 28mm Perry's for Sharp practice, Rebels and Patriots and anything else that might work well at man to man.
And I'm currently working on the Warlord epics, primarily for Pickett's charge but also potentially for With hot lead and cold steel and Altar of freedom. Or Black powder actually.

Misc bits coming from my mom's and the mists of time. I made a Dryad out of a daemonette, had a few spellcasters and my lord in a tree is an old High elf character who won 1st place in the staff painting competition (public vote)! I could see these going into a new Dragon rampant army.

Well I did rather hurriedly make this for a recent Mud and blood game and it is possibly my best scratch build so maybe you're right.
Maybe I'll try filling my 28mm deficit with some scratch builds...

Unsure of exactly who I'll want in my ACW big battles I decided to just go across the states. My confederacy now has Virginia and north and south Carolina.
Seems smart to experiment my way through the southern colours as the north is going to be comparatively simple.
Just a few thousand to go...

Clayman was my entry (Slipknot brought them on tour with them) and I will always rate that very highly.

I also just had a look at the band photo and y'know... there may be more than one band called "Covenant".
A quick search later and yep. Several!
I meant this one -

Oh it's THAT time of year is it? Always fascinating how interesting this is as well as how inversely proportionally it is uninteresting to everyone else.

@nordicweaselgames.bsky.social I told you Whitechapel was one of my albums of the year!

Well the paint job turns out to be not all that different in the end. Light tone seems to be good for just changing an overall tone but is still very gentle.
Still, Director Ridley Cameron here looks good in his new rebel hunting environment.

My camera has gone all funky with the nighttime lighting for some reason but I think the experiment hasn't been too disastrous.
Once the basing is on he'll be a decent addition to my Empire anyway.

The thing about having a nice stash of replaceable 3d prints is you can feel all brave about trying new methods and colours.
I may have messed this model up about 30 seconds after taking this but just maybe I'll have greatly improved it...
Maybe.

I've been meaning to mention this since I saw the @peachytips.bsky.social video on drybrushing materials cos I have an odd one.
I use my plate.
Over the past x-years the edge has become very textured to the point I can get most of the excess off on it. And I finish using some folded over bog roll.

Did the missing details on my M3 and I have to say I think this is looking pretty slick.
Then for an encore I finished building my SS PzGren platoon. Almost time to break out the @sonicsledgehammer.bsky.social videos. I know I already got the paints in because I've no other use for sky green. Ever!

Fat thumbs buggered a decal (replaced already), forgot a few details (I'll get them tomorrow) but otherwise I'm pretty happy with this one.
Decided to do Italy cos I liked this camo pattern.

One rapid PzIII done. Being 28mm this will either be quite the focal point in a game or I'll stick a fire/smoke marker on it and use it as terrain. I'm aiming for Barbarossa so burning Panzers seems quite likely

20+ years ago I bought all manner of interesting things I'd largely forgotten about. Lots of vampire based things too. Must have been Ann Rice's fault.

How to improve your (basic) speed painting.
1) find your ideal woman and have two kids with her.
2) wait till they are both toddler age.
3) try and keep doing your hobby.

It's a bit of a do or die method but there we are.
