Having some time without coding in The Runic Edda but still thinking about the combat part of the game.

What do you think about this kind of art for that part?

Lore is everything.
I want players to truly immerse themselves in the Viking experience, to feel the weight of the world.

Exploring the story should also be a way to learn about the world that surrounds them.

Do it for you, and for those who came before.

Worked on Save/load functionality with slots!

Now the system saves inventory items, quests, flags, current scene, and more. Next step: being able to load the game back in!

Today was about focus management!

Tidied up events so opening a menu automatically sends focus to the right element. Also, when you close it, focus returns to the opener element. Such a nice, polished feeling! ✨

Lore matters, and so does humor!

This character I’m writing was a true pioneer… already dreaming of finding orange carrots (back then, they were still purple!). 🥕

Worldbuilding’s always better with a wink.

If you’ve played Golden Sun, you know what Reveal is.

This opens up so many puzzle ideas! Thanks Ivan and Sheba for the inspiration.
The cherry on top? Making the revealed objects ignore the grayscale shader.

Added some simple idle animations today. And accidentally discovered the chorus effect: five NPCs blinking in perfect sync! 😂

A quick random delay fixed it, and now everything feels way more natural. Love these little dev moments!

New puzzle logic in the works!✨
Started with a pressure plate + statue setup. From here, it could easily grow into puzzles with multiple plates, each with unique conditions to solve.

So many possibilities ahead! 🧩

Been adding some new tools for my cutscenes:

- Camera blending for smooth transitions
- Camera panning to guide the eye
- Classic fade-ins for drama

It’s amazing how much these touches level up the storytelling. What do you think?

Looking for some help with shaders in Godot 4 (4.4 / 4.5)
I’d love to create effects like rain with droplet impacts or a nice fog layer to boost atmosphere.

Any shader wizards out there? I have found some stuff but not exactly the look I need!

Look how cool! I’ve started sketching out the farmer’s house that feeds all of Lindisfarne!

Still needs a lot of fine-tuning with the props, but it’s starting to take shape.

New NPC detail added: when you talk to them, they turn to face you, then smoothly return to their default position afterwards.

Small touches like this make the world feel more alive.

The Quest Manager is here!

Took a few hours to bring it over from another project and adapt it to The Runic Edda, but now it’s up and running, and already feeling pretty nice!

If you don’t have much time, just do one small thing to keep the project moving.

Even adding a tiny decoration can make a scene feel richer. At the end, progress is progress, no matter the size.

Started adding transitions to the game. That makes everything feel so much smoother already!

I’ve been following this great tutorial series by MakerTech, highly recommend! Some more steps into Shaders! www.youtube.com/watch?v=RubM...

More on the small details: transparency isn’t just aesthetic, it can hide secrets… like this hidden loot!

Sometimes it’s the subtle tricks that make exploration more rewarding.

Details matter!

Making the ladder feel right with the character was tougher than expected. I had to do some real z-index gymnastics to get it looking cool.

P.S. Need a cool climb animation haha

It’s so important to keep persistent tracking of what’s been picked up, opened, or solved. We do not want re-loot the same chests, right?

Got a proto Inventory Manager in place, now the challenge is hooking it up with the Save Manager!

Thinking a lot about localization. It’s important to consider it from minute 1 of development. 🌍✨

But also… don’t fall into the infinite spiral of polishing translations too early. Keep building, keep moving forward!!!

Just added limits that trigger dialogues so players can get a better sense of where to go next.

Been playing Chained Echoes lately, and it reminded me how nice those subtle nudges can feel in RPGs.

Haven’t played Silksong yet, because I stumbled into a very hidden subsubsubthread of someone complaining that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown didn’t get enough attention.

Since it's on PlayStation Plus I gave it a try and I’m having so much fun!

What about you, any plans for the weekend?

New interior layout is coming together. Just added some trim details (thanks to an amazing tutoring session from @everlyjane.bsky.social ✨). Also experimenting with mechanics like picking up objects and autosaving.

It’s starting to look cool! 🎮

Building a PartyRosterManager to handle who’s in the roster (pulled from the party!).

Also added the ability to trigger cutscenes after dialogue branches or item interaction.

This makes everything flow smoother and boosts accessibility.
Transitions are next!

Just added a Tutorial Manager 📚

It is accessible from anywhere!

It can show a list of tutorials or jump straight to the one you need after a cutscene, for example. Now everything’s trackable and even available from a menu.

Working on some pixel art props for a fisherman’s house 🎣 I’m not happy with my first version of the rod…

Any ideas for other fitting props I could add? I would love also some net. Would love some inspiration! 🪝✨
