The lunar cycle does not affect the Moon's apparent size, but Venus's phase changes do coincide with changes in the planet's apparent diameter, which reaches a minimum when the phase is plump and gibbous, and a maximum when the phase is thin and pointy (a crescent).

I wasn't trying to track the phases of Venus, but my unplanned photos in 2020 and 2025 coincided with near-perfect "half-Venus" phases, and my pictures of the 2012 transit of Venus automatically show the "new Venus" phase, since all we can see of a planet during a solar transit is its dark side.

The Moon passed in front of Mars on Monday. The sequence on the right shows the last couple of minutes of the approach. It was too cold to wait for Mars to reappear an hour later on the opposite side of the lunar disk.

CAN YOU SEE THE NORTH POLE FROM CHICAGO?
Despite its polar winters, the city is closer to the equator than it is to the geographic North Pole (Earth's magnetic and geomagnetic north poles are also remote and out of sight). But we can still see plenty of north poles from here, including these three.
