5) Gourmand crossed w/ hippie? This is vanilla while enjoying a cinnamon roll & ginger tea in a fragrant oak cabin, surrounded by firewood smoke while your partner burns copious sweet incense. No flowers, fruit or green. Autumnal smoke & sweetness that dries down to a whiff of vanilla and resin.

4) Comme Un Gant crossed with Ani. Elegant vanilla is the unchallenged star here, with coconut supporting. Not really gourmand - a true vanilla-amber w/ a very brief orange opening & a bit of jasmine in the heart. (I long for more of it). This is an extrait; it leaves oil on skin & lasts forever.

3) Soft, milky, feminine-leaning coconut & subtle vanilla - light and airy. Sandalwood isn't evident at opening, but about 2 hours into the wear makes its appearance and becomes a main player. Drydown is creamy, subtle sandalwood accented by the vanilla and coconut. Very pleasant & calm.

2) Oolong tea w/ a whisper of the plush, fruity top facet of frankincense on top of generous vanilla. Myrrh expertly balances vanilla & tea. I could not smell any florals. Not an amber! A lovely, understated vanilla oolong. Persistence is light, but it’s warm, gentle, sensuous & unisex. In love!

Spicy vanilla-orange-ginger CAKE! Gourmand w/ a touch of fresh green & a slightly smoky/bitter note. Fruity yet brief rose & blackcurrant heart as sweet orange morphs into spicy bergamot. Soft woody cedar & burnt vanilla drydown w/ residual ginger. Excellent blending. Interesting take on vanilla.

From my 2025 recap. Wow that's cool because she's awesome & you should listen to her.

I enjoy seeing my year end Tidal list. Some others I dug this year:
Haley Heynderickx, MJ Lenderman, A. Savage, Color Green, John Grant,
Wolftooth, The Bevis Frond, Caroline Polachek, the power pop of Aussies 'the prize'. And I don't know how Emma Jean Thackray's latest didn't get on here!

"Jazz Club" is delicious and perfect for a cold day. It's just so likeable. As with other things, when it comes to fragrance, I'm not snobbish & happily wear popular, niche or drugstore. If I like it, I like it!
What are your favorites from Maison Martin Margiela?

The most gorgeous opening I've ever smelled! Morning streets of Havana after rain, the smell of orange trees, pineapple & coffee w/ a sprig of mint.

Later, you're wrapped in milky coffee & hazelnut liqueur, a touch of cocoa, w/ warm musk and sandalwood emerging in the drydown. #fragrancesky #sotd

Grahhh I love this stuff! Dry citrus, pink pepper, elemi, cinnamon, and red pepper give way to a warm, spicy, cherry tobacco & sweet leather hug.
So perfectly balanced, cozy & perfect for a cold, overcast day.
A regular reach for the cooler seasons! #fragrancesky #perfumesky #sotd

I'm wearing vintage Youth Dew & I won't apologize! 😁
You've got to be a self-assured woman to wear this. I hear some men wear it too. It's your grandma, but it's not fusty. It's old school 1950s siren sexy.

#sotd Hugo Boss, The Scent Elixir, 2024.
Opens w big spicy chili and lavender & its heart turns creamy with a base of sandalwood, jammy fruit mixed with red pepper, and a soft lavender. For me, it would be a great daytime scent for going out to grab tacos or driving in the sun with the top down 🏎️

#sotd Dior Fahrenheit EDT.
I'm so intrigued. It has its own, odd beauty, but a wag on Reddit said "It smells like having sex on the back of an impala parked in a gas station", and - um - I can't really argue.
Others suggest gas chainsaw.
The violet is amazing, but - not a safe wear...for reasons.

#Sotd is Dior Sauvage (2015 EDT). Love. It feels like old school barbershop taken to a higher, more plush level. People report ambroxen as the dominant note. I get strong, elegant citrus, lavender & amber, but how can I know it's ambroxen specifically? Still learning. Thoughts? #fragrancesky

Today I wore Serge Lutens Écrin de Fumée, & was enveloped in a cloud of cacao & incense smoke. I needed a rocknroll worthy scent to see the uber-talented Christone Kingfish Ingram play the blues at The Fillmore SF #sotd #perfumesky

#Sotd = Spicebomb. It's love. 💕
Compositionally, no note dominates. So well integrated! Like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a worn leather couch. Someone smokes a pipe full of cherry tobacco & someone in the kitchen is baking a citrus & spice cake. A great daily reach for fall. #perfumesky

This is so elegant.
I feel underdressed.

Unsure how I feel about it my sample. It's vaulted, but the updated clone is Creed's Royal Mayfair. The rose is pure & prominent. Conifer & citrus balance. It's morning dew fresh the way no modern freshie is. A lovely gentleman's scent. #sotd #fragrancesky

The lotus was at Huntington Library Gardens. I took a bus to LA a few weeks ago, stayed w Brendan Barry. I saw the Asian gardens for the 1st time & they were magnificent. I went to LACMA, the Broad & MOCA. LA has fantastic art. Here's Jeffrey Gibson's work from the Venice Biennale... loved it.

#sotd - 'Tropical' by Arquiste.
Opens w big, realistic guava, quickly accompanied by tropical florals, primarily champaca (Indian magnolia). Fruit & florals mingle, supported by light, spicy ginger, anchored by vanilla and a caramel note. It never becomes gourmand. Adult - not cloying or teen dream.

I recently spent sustained time with this Bruce Nauman piece at LA MOCA. I find it fascinating & enjoyable.

Such an excellent show w Bolis Pupul & Deradoorian last night in LA. A talented synthesist, his 2024 album "Letter to Yu" was also deeply moving & one of my favorites of the year. Angel Deradoorian also just made a new record, both moving & brutal. A wonderful vocalist.

The young floof abides and has been joined by a few young red shouldered hawks. It's a veritable convocation of raptors next door, and just a little while ago there was a dramatic dust up between the crows, hawks & young squirrels, some of whom will be dinner, probably.
