Saw so many adorable ground squirrels snacking and scurrying along my Bay Trail walk. Beautiful day and the animals were enjoying it as much as my friend and I were.

This entire month has been deeply horrible, but I'm planning a birding beach walk as part of a work offsite, and have been playing around with iNaturalist so we can perhaps document some bird sightings. It led to my digging up some old nature photos, and just look at this guy!

This post reminded me of this lovely calligraphy practice sheet by John Atwood Smith c 1845, seen at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in 2019.

Just off the easel. Sokka, oil on canvas, 20”x 20”. Tuxedo cats are a vibe. 10/10, highly recommend.

First day of Thanksgiving break for me, spent visiting the Amy Sherald show, American Sublime, and Kara Walker installation, Fortunate and the Immortality Garden (Machine), at SFMOMA. Both so powerful, and worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Last night’s Ghibli fest movie was The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, an adaptation of the 10th century Japanese Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, and I have to admit I was rather skeptical about going into a 2 and a half hour animated movie, but it flew by. One of my favorites by that studio, now.

Found this blog in Japanese on #Ghibli characters and ukiyo-e that appeared in the Yokai Operation of "Heisei Tanuki Battle Pompoko" (aka Pom Poko in English). Love the visual references to classic mythological art. ghibli.jpn.org/trivia/pompo...

Saw Pom Poko for the first time today with kiddo. Hit different after seeing the Japan: Myths to Manga show last summer at the Young V&A and learning about tanuki folklore. As with all Studio #Ghibli animations, was fun to catch the Easter eggs of characters from other Ghibli films and Japanese art.

Separated at birth? The resemblance is striking!

Welcome! I have rescue pets, too, and these three (bunnies Mr and Mrs Kitty and their parrot shepherd, Henry) were thick as thieves. Sadly we lost two at the ripe old ages of 9 and 60+ this year, and poor Mr Kitty is left with only our cats for company, who mostly just want to steal her hay.

In seeing her work recently at Hartford’s Wadsworth Atheneum and at San Francisco’s de Young, I’ve been reminded how much I love the #art of Florine Stettheimer. Her brushwork, color palette, and composition enchant.

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline.

The Tamara de Lempicka show at the de Young in San Francisco is marvelous. I’ll be back to enjoy it at a more leisurely pace.

This is Young Girl in Green, circa 1931.

This weekend also took me to the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. What a museum. Still thinking about this painting by Edvard Munch, Winter Landscape at Hvitsten, c 1918. If you think of him as The Scream guy, you’re missing out on his magical landscapes, which are about half of his works.

If you see this, post a concert photo you took.

Okay, not a photo I took at a concert, but I just saw this portrait of Anderson today by Anita Kunz at her exhibit in Stockbridge and you might enjoy.

Picked myself up this weekend and saw some great, local live music, and went to a couple museums for a much needed art fix, including illustrator Anita Kunz’s powerful show, Original Sisters, Portraits of Tenacity and Courage, at the Norman Rockwell Museum. So worth a visit if you can.

I’ve been away from these two for two weeks and I miss them so much.

#caturday, but not for me.
