...so Mrs Richards & I have agreed some of our Sunday movie nights are going to be about addressing that this winter.
So, Blue sky hive mind please can you help us to plan a curriculum for this?

Months ago I called out Pie for appealing to lowest common denominator right wing twats for likes, after he defended Lucy Connolly and was courting flagshaggers. I apologised when he said he was hurt via DM.

Moral of the story? Trust your gut.

I was evidently right.

He’s clearly a total cunt.

When you're a computer programmer, some numbers just look suspicious when seen in the wild.

I haven't had the capacity to keep up with moderation lists for a bit, but this one is really obvious, so I'm stealing some energy from Future Me: a list for the extremely obvious wave of inauthentic accounts following today's newly-created US gov accounts

Tyler the Creator on whether youth culture still exists. I don't know if this is completely true, but it does seem more true today than in the past.

Have you tried asking chatGPT how to do it?
I really like Windows 11?

Can't shake the feeling that OpenAI & chums are desperately betting the farm on the emergence of an artificial super intelligence that will solve money. I believe *they* believe if they just throw enough energy at it, it'll just happen. I'm not an expert, but I don't think that's what will happen.
yeah this is a Problem if people ever stop believing

if Google or Meta never gets AI revenue to the level they expect they’re still tied to the advertising money faucet, they’ll be fine

if OpenAI’s profits never materialize we are in some shit

(xAI is, well, tied into the Elon Bullshit Machine)
this is one of the best articulations of the AI bear case I've read

most of the AI companies are also massively wealthy and profitable hypercorps, but OpenAI specifically is a bomb planted at the heart of the American stock market helpfully labeled "this is a bomb"

I would buy back ALL of the NFTs, at 2 dollars on the dollar. I would then buy the biggest building nearest the Louvre and set up an exhibit for all of the pictures. Each picture would be displayed on a CRT monitor that I would buy from anyone who wanted to sell at the inflation-unadjusted RRP.
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

I watched this this morning on my way to work and was unexpectedly moved by it. The idea of someone comitting so hard to the future that their vision won't be completed for over a thousand years is really neat. I liked commentary on "conservatism".

To be fair, this is the sort of language you use as a teacher to encourage a pupil. Because "For pity sake Jason, I've given you a list of all the stupid mistakes you made in your coursework. Why the heck are you still pissing around with the font size?" isn't compatible with collecting a salary.
believing this is “genuine behavior” really says everything u need to know about the people behind this stuff
“You'll notice small, genuine touches like ‘Good question’ or ‘Great start,’ not flattery. Internal tests show no rise in sycophancy compared to the previous GPT-5 personality.”

Old tech had so much class.
In other camera fun & games, a friend gave me this beautiful Double 8 camera. I have to figure out a little power supply to take the place of its mercury battery, but I see at least one roll of double 8 in my future.

OK so feeling slightly apprehensive about this, which I suppose is kind of the point. This is an attempt at a progressive view on masculinity and on men getting laid. God help me. iandunt.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...
How to be a man
The right story narrative about male attractiveness is grounded in Social Darwinism and free market economics. Can progressives tell a better story?

This is true, but:

1) there has to be an existing market to take over (Uber)
2) there has to be suppressed demand for the service offered, which you can lock in to create an economy of scale and then profit (Amazon)

AI firms are trying to find one of those two things, so far with limited success.
One claim I really don't understand about AI is the idea that it'll go away because they're all losing money. Losing money while building a product is just normal company behavior? You borrow and lose money to try to make a thing and/or control the market, and then you angle for sustainable profit.

Only we can control this ravenous beast. Give us all we ask or suffer the consequences. (oh, and please don't look behind that curtain over there)
Eric Schmidt says AI industry needs 3 things from Congress:
- high-skill immigration
- light-touch regulation
- "Most importantly, we need energy, and the numbers are profound."

"We need energy in all forms. Renewable, nonrenewable, whatever. It needs to be there & it needs to be there quickly."
