On the 16th, one of the orchestras I play with is doing a DIY (Dance It Yourself) Nutcracker at JUMP. It is an interactive Nutcracker experience w/ the symphony, and we encourage you to dance along (even if you have no dance experience—perhaps especially so then!) If you are in Boise, please come!

Listening to Quyras' Bach suites makes me think of Mozart playing variations on Salieri's march in Amadeus. He really is just out there adding embellishments, and I love that for him.

My mum sent a cricut because I've been making stickers and she likes to support the ADHD hobby collecting habit. That said, I watched some YT videos, and now my feed is, frankly, garbo! Give me back my cameras! I don't want 50 [kitschy] Christmas Circuit Crafts, no matter how alliterative it may be!

It is also interesting how media in my childhood shaped how I felt about dinosaurs. My first dinosaur film was The Land Before Time, and while I was not afraid of "sharp tooth," he was definitely positioned as a villain. 1/
And of course, I also wanted a brontosaurus to be my friend.

I love this. <3

For me, it was also a gateway into how the earth held secrets which felt like a kind of magic and then led to me paying a lot more attention to the world. The existence of dinosaurs made six year old me see life as wondrous! I still feel that way today.
It’s often said we love dinosaurs because they’re “big, fierce, and extinct.” Maybe. I don’t think that’s the whole story. When we’re small, and there is so much to fear about the world, dinosaurs can be our friends and protectors. They were for me.

Why Kids Love Dinosaurs | Atmos
Dinosaurs are big, fierce, scary—and long extinct. So, why are these toothy reptiles a childhood staple for so many?

It's "magic" per religious scholars.

This is a pretty convincing breakdown, though I have not looked into the specifics laid out here. Parts one and two are in the thread.

Can not emphasise enough how much you should go to your moderation settings and turn off hiding for the 「 rude 」 label

All the moderation here sucks but this, in particular, is systematically abused by Aaron the so-called head of 「 trust and safety 」 here at BS.

Got the new, larger bits calibrated pretty perfectly (touch wood) with the CNC for birch, and everything looks so much cleaner. Now to source a panel so I can do a full assembly test using the intended material.

I am closing up shop from my birthday through the end of the year. Thinking of using some of that time to make a little writing retreat for myself, preferably in the snow. Cross your fingers the climate delivers.

What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

All of the parts of culinary school that require me to touch gluten (some things just don't have a gluten free counterpart I'm interested in exploring, tysm).
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

i spec'd, configured, tested, and physically installed netbsd servers in the congressional data center circa 2004 and i never touched a single sys admin task since

I learned the particular script to make FrameMaker iterate broken lists correctly. Also the undocumented keyboard shortcut to wrap images. (It's ESC, m, p -- in sequence, not combined)

“They are more akin to digital content than we know.”

“In recent years, a literary genre emerged and exploded in popularity, seemingly in direct response to our slovenly leisure culture that fetishizes appearing literary”

Nutcracker posting again: So, the season is in full swing, and when I was a teen and performing it every year, I thought that there was nothing I could hate more. Age, time away, and maybe other factors have changed my attitude about it though, because...I love it? 🥴

I find myself yet again bitter that there are very few options for camping in winter. I, someone who abhors the summery months and thrives in freezing temperatures amidst snow covered mountains, would like a word with the manager!!!

We bought a bigger collet and larger compression router bit, so I can clear material instead of cutting it. Cleaner cuts done 200% faster. AND no tabs or double-sided tape. I love learning. 🥰

I already ordered a sciart calendar, but now I also need a paleoart calendar. 😅
This is the March illustration for next year's Paleoart calendar, and one I created especially for this project. You can order it now for yourself or the dino-addict in your life. #paleoart #fossilfriday levi-hastings.myshopify.com

I adore the composition and the colors in this piece!
A cluster of juvenile Pachycephalosaurs shelter from an early spring downpour as the adult members of the clan stand watch against roaming predators. A pair of small pterosaurs attempt to stay dry beneath a fallen log nearby. #fossilfriday #paleoart
