A pianoless quartet with a subdued tone of both the trumpet and saxophone, and a twin-tenor sextet full of ideas brilliantly executed.
Yes, other players have done this before, but both efforts sound excellent to me and deserve a wider recognition.

Listening to straight jazz for the mere pleasure of it

Straightahead jazz with much esteemed tenor saxophonist Ralph Moore in 2016, the year of his return to the recording studio as a bandleader

To commemorate the passing of Sheila Jordan today I listened to her two records with Alan Broadbent and Harvie Swartz. Recorded live on April 1991 and October 2021. Truly, a great loss

Was ‘En attendant’ recorded while Marcin Wasilewski Trio was waiting for Joe Lovano to attend for ‘Arctic Riff’?
A clue, both albums recorded in the same studio in the South of France in August 2019.

Supposedly, post WWII Lester Young is not THE Lester Young, but the three dates with John Lewis (a much less muscular pianist than Oscar Peterson) in a quartet setting well, well, well open.spotify.com/track/1x3bea... Cover art designed and illustrated by David Stone Martin

The Unconsoled is also the second name The Clientele used. But you know that of course

It is somehow uncool to publish about jazz names who are into the tradition and I think we are missing a lot.
The last two albums of alto saxophonist Jim Snidero are superb.
Why his name so rarely gets attention is a mistery to me.

Listening to Dick Haymes with cocktail hour pianist Loonis McGlohon while reading Whitney Balliett is the most effective time capsule to the 1970s

Brad Mehldau and Peter Bernstein meet again. No groundbreaking jazz, but it’s always interesting to hear them together. Very recommended.

Like all tenorist Benny Golson also caught the Coltrane fever, but I really like him most when at his most restrained. Today I played all the records he and Art Farmer did together #NowPlaying #Jazz A great loss

Today listening to Benny Golson. Here an uberfan of his collaborations with Curtis Fuller. Their ballads and arresting midtempos will remain with me for the rest of my life #NowPlaying #Jazz
