While World Tour shines narratively, Trolls Band Together steals the show animation-wise. The ante is upped with every film but the character designs and textures are so delightfully diverse in this one that it cannot go unmentioned

Poppy and Branch’s progression as individuals is perfectly paced with their growth as a couple! Their development is realistic and healthy, even! They don’t even kiss or confirm their relationship until the third movie. They show kids that relationships aren’t perfect but still worth working for

We as the audience learn alongside Poppy that their world is exponentially bigger than she thought. But just like people, not all music is the same. And the Trolls writers have found such a wonderful way to begin discussions about race with kids!! And the designs for the Trolls are so creative!

The character designs were almost completely overhauled, but their hair still remained a focal point of it! There’s small homages to their roots, sure. But Dreamworks built a world so crazily expansive that it’s a complete disservice to call these simple kids films.

In 2016, Dreamworks revamped the Good Luck Trolls franchise of dolls from the 80s with the release of the first Trolls movie. The film reimagines these dolls as fuzzy little creatures who can’t help but sing. It was an animated jukebox musical and a great one at that!
