It pays to live in a place that is neither my home town or my teaching town: no chance I’ll run into an old boyfriend or a current student when I’m carrying a full box out of the packy in my sweatpants and second-day hair.🤣

Rich Lowry is a bigoted piece of shit whose existence makes America a worse place. He's vapid patrician gentility used to mask gutter racism. He's a Brooks Brothers pocket square used to wipe Nick Fuentes' ass.

Is he telling you to call 911 if you are approached by masked paramilitary personnel with no ID who say you can't interfere with them? This should be interesting.😏

Alex Horton, one of the two Washington Post reporters who broke the story, has been a participant in more violent combat than Pete Hegseth by an order of magnitude.

It's not a coincidence that he got the scoop.
Q: So you didn't see any survivors after that first strike?

HEGSETH: I did not personally see survivors. The thing was on fire. This is called the fog of war. This is what you in the press don't understand. You sit in your air conditioned offices and plant fake stories in the Washington Post

The oligarchs’ reaction to this piece is heavily illustrative of the fact that for decades most of the press coverage they got was trade related and fawning. Now they think stating the obvious is a “hit piece” when their own actions reflect badly on them

Altogether, at the meeting in Miami, Ukrainian delegation stated repeatedly that they cannot give up any territory as this is forbidden by the constitution of Ukraine, while the US delegation pressured them to discuss giving up “for sure” Donbass.

There was no progress on that point.

A reminder to a nation with way too many people untethered to facts and truth: There’s no such thing as “The Department of War.” It doesn’t exist. Only Congress has the power to create and name executive departments & agencies. So it’s still The Department of Defense.

Thanks

By the time the audience cycles through terror, humor, and comfort, their defenses are lowered. Calls for “tribunals” and “build gallows” no longer feel shocking. They feel like the natural conclusion of the emotional ride.

We counter this by strengthening our own information habits. Slow the pace, check sources, and call out the emotional tricks that are built to short-circuit judgment. When people recognize manipulation in real time, its power collapses. Awareness is our leverage, and we build it together.

The system relies on nostalgia for credibility. Old photos, childhood memories, vintage ads. These provide warmth right before the next surge of fear. Emotional contrast keeps people locked in and craving the next hit. #PatternWatch
