It was never true that wE dOn'T hAvE eNoUgH mOnEy to pay teachers more. It was always intentional. Education has been INTENTIONALLY defunded for decades because an educated populous is a threat to power. Read the books. Do the work. They are TERRIFIED of education.

Skrmetti was the culmination of a decade long effort to turn the tide back against LGBTQ rights by the far right. They specifically targeted trans people after Obergefell to cleave the community. Now their next target is to overturn Obergefell. That's the end goal. We were a stepping stone to that.

When ICE agents look like this, it is ENTIRELY APPROPRIATE for state and local law enforcement to step in and demand they identify themselves and show judicial warrants before detaining anyone from an immigration court.

Democratic mayor and governors can take action on this.

Here is a list I post from time to time. My answer to a reader who asked me: what could journalists do NOW to break with some of their more corrosive habits. Defense of democracy seen as basic to the job. Symmetrical accounts of asymmetrical realities seen as malpractice. “Politics as strategic game” frame seen as low quality, downmarket, amateurish— and overmatched. Bad actors with a history of misinforming the public seen as unsuitable sources and unwelcome guests. Internalizing of the “liberal bias” critique seen as self-crippling, a historic mistake in need of correction.

I might believe the concern about environmental toxins more if they weren’t terminating EPA research grants, proposing to roll back the Mercury and Air Toxics rule, promoting coal and killing renewables, etc.

That was one of the most odious of those acts of tyranny which occasioned the American revolution. The whole of the reasoning is not applicable to this case, but I submit to your Honors that, if the President has the power to do it in the case of Africans, and send them beyond seas for trial, he could do it by the same authority in the case of American citizens. By a simple order to the marshal of the district, he could just as well seize forty citizens of the United States, on the demand of a foreign minister, and send them beyond seas for trial before a foreign court."
