My default assumption is that the Trumpist coalition will keep radicalizing, as every crisis, every defeat only heightens their sense of being under siege. There’s always permission to escalate, hardly ever to pull back.

Today’s Right is constantly longing to escalate.

For many years, @americanstudier.bsky.social has worked tirelessly to make scholarship more accessible to a broader audience and help interject academic observations into our political discourse.

He is now continuing that crucial mission away from Substack - and he deserves your support:
In these fraught times, we need spaces & communities of our own, that we can make what we want & use to support each other & our work. &, yes, to avoid Nazis as much as possible. That's why we left Substack, & why @gvaughnjoy.bsky.social worked so hard on our new website. So+🗃️

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:

Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

One big shift in my thinking in response to our fascist era is that my view of progress is fundamentally changed. I believe progress is possible, but never permanent, always vulnerable. @aselrod.bsky.social on the rightwing movement to remove women from public life is a case in point.

School lunches get a bad rap, but they're healthier than the average packed lunch. And making them free for all amplifies academic and health benefits for low-income kids by removing stigma/shame.

So I'm glad Colorado voted to raise taxes on high-income households to make school meals free for all.

My morning podcast listen today was @michaelmezz.bsky.social and @graceblakeley.substack.com in conversation on BETTER FUTURE.

It was very cogent discussion of how wealthy people use power & money to control and curate an economic system designed for exploitation.

Includes important examples.

Suicidal for centrists to be begging for moderation when now would be a great time to pass some big, ambitious policies and remind people why Democrats are better than Republicans.
