PhD student working on membrane trafficking at the Royle lab, Warwick Uni, UK
In the lab - I’m happiest at the microscope, getting excited about my favourite proteins lighting up
Outside - I get excited about wildlife, art + small plate menus
I also loved that the plants in the surrounding garden were chosen for their connections to her story, with Everlasting Flower (powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:ls...) being a particularly poignant choice.
Helichrysum stoechas (L.) Moench | Plants of the World Online | Kew Science
The native range of this species is Medit. to Arabian Peninsula. It is a subshrub and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

I also second Mara on this tip + share her dislike of gel extractions!

If it’s any consolation, at one point during my PhD, I made an agarose gel with H2O instead of TAE/TBE + wondered why it was running weirdly for ~30 mins before realising. I had vowed never to do this again after undergrad when I wasted a lot of time before learning H2O was not the solvent to use.

Thank you, the earrings were a gift from a friend + former colleague @thilanibabuji.bsky.social 😊

Hah I have actually considered this on a couple of occasions, but never been brave enough to do it!

I put an ode to the Golgi into a Fiji macro I wrote and it made it into the Github repo associated with my paper 👌 Those who seek it shall find this Easter egg 🐣 on: github.com/quantixed/p0... (code snippet in the next post) @steveroyle.bsky.social

Thanks! I’m a daily visitor on that site 😅👩‍💻

I’m currently looking for a post-doc in the UK, particularly to work on projects that employ in-vitro reconstitution and quantitative #microscopy approaches to study #cellbiology processes (esspecially #membranetraffic) + would be grateful for sign-posting towards openings! 🙏

And thank you @jcellsci.bsky.social for publishing an interview with me - I enjoyed reflecting on my work + journey in science so far! I’m looking forward to new chapters in my membrane trafficking adventures and hope to continue exploring how cell organelles shape-shift + communicate!

This story wouldn’t be here w/out @lizziecourthold.bsky.social, @moore-cell.bsky.social, Peyton Ewbank + other colleagues from @steveroyle.bsky.social’s lab who helped us along the way!
