They originated in Maine and people originally believed they derived from cats and raccoons cross-breeding. Thus, Maine + Coon. It's actually one of the most obvious cat name origins out there.

I personally use a very nice reusable advent calendar instead (each day is a small stocking and all tied together on thick string). Better for the environment, better for my wallet, better for kitties, still looks very nice on the tree.

For carpal tunnel, it's whatever... but for a degenerative joint disease, I would say you also should be wary of listening to people on the internet, even if it is "actual human experiences". Sorry to say to any Americans, but the only people you should take medical advice from are licensed doctors.
