Two residents who sleep at the MLK Library told Street Sense around midnight that officials came by earlier that day and the night before to photograph them and the others sleeping under the library’s awning.

Multiple other residents who sleep outside across downtown D.C. reported they hadn’t been approached by any government official or officer as of 2 a.m.

A woman who regularly sleeps in Lafayette Square confirmed she hadn’t been approached by any police as of 1:23 a.m. and did not feel police presence had been increased yet.

Secret Service Police at Lafayette Square said at about 1:30 a.m. that they were operating under normal FD-12 rules and were not aware of any changes to detainment rules. They did not plan to arrest any of the people sleeping in the Square as long as things remained “safe.”

As of Friday at 2 a.m. — Six long standing tents remained near GW hospital in Foggy Bottom. Multiple people in the area said they hadn’t seen an increase in police activity or an abnormal amount of traffic at the emergency room.
