NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:
Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

this is really fucking enraging. i worked with one of the victims of the crash on an anti-bigotry (“DEI”) campaign at our law school. she was brilliant and thoughtful and kind and she doesn’t deserve for her avoidable death to be turned into fodder for a stupid racist rant!!!!!
REPORTER: I'm trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity had something to do with this crash.

What he's announcing is a concentration camp. A deeply illegal, unconstitutional, anti-human rights atrocity. Anyone who supports this is complicit. Anyone in any federal service, military or otherwise, is morally obligated to refuse to carry out any orders related to this deeply criminal act.
Trump announces an executive order authorizing a 30,000 capacity migrant detention center in Guantanamo.

"Some of them are so bad we don't even trust the countries to hold them because we don't want them coming back, so we're going to send them out to Guatanamo Bay."

NEW: My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night's federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health care from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.

The union win comes as Amazon, which owns the grocery chain, is also fighting labor organizing in its warehouse and delivery businesses.

CBP slow-walking and insubordinately undermining Biden vs snapping into action to reverse policy the moment Trump is inaugurated is a good demonstration of how power works in practice and an argument for why DHS needs to be abolished root and stem
The CBP One app, which allows asylum seekers to schedule an appointment at a port of entry, seems to have been shut down, per CBP website.

The ceasefire being signed on the same day a new YouGov poll shows the number one reason Democrats stayed home in 2024 was Palestine - and that that margin was more than enough to win Harris the election - is a perfect little synecdoche for the last 2 years of this admin.

Epistemically evil.

The LA Tenants Union (LATU)'s response to the wildfires shows us the huge value of tenant organizing in the face of climate disasters.

Networks of organized tenants are helping their neighbors, doing mutual aid, enforcing tenant protections, and demanding the policies tenants need to stay safe 🧵

bummed to hear that residents will be displaced from the building they fought to save. it’s incumbent upon PHA to engage in regular communication with tenants so that tenants’ voices can be heard throughout this transition period & so this disruption can be as short & painless as possible
PHA informed residents of Brith Sholom House, who organized to save the building and get the authority to acquire it, that damages are so extensive gut rehab is required. They have to move out.

PHA anticipated repairs of $30-$40 mil. Their new assessment is $112.

PHA will have to relocate residents to repair Brith Sholom House
Tenants at the catastrophically neglected West Philly apartment building will have to move out as PHA repairs the structure, which will require more extensive work than previously thought.
