Welcome back, Nanotyrannus lancensis 🥂🦖
Huge congrats to Lindsay Zanno & @jgn-paleo.bsky.social for their cutting-edge study on a beautiful, uniquely preserved specimen. End-Cretaceous dinosaur diversity just got a major bump 🦖 🦕📈☄️ #FossilFriday

New paper today in @science.org: we date the Naashoibito Member (New Mexico) to 66.4–66.0 Ma, coeval with the Hell Creek, with important remarks on pre-extinction dinosaur diversity & regionalisation in North America 🦖🦕☄1/

What are the biggest questions in #paleontology? New paper out today in Paleobiology led by Smith & Kiessling with ~200 coauthors on the relevance of our field, methods, & museum collections to climate & biodiversity research🦖 #FossilFriday @paleosoc.bsky.social 🔗: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

With a pristine skull, tiny phalanges, gastroliths, & an articulated tail, Zavacephale is the oldest & most complete pachycephalosaur ever found #fossilfriday I had the pleasure of photographing it last week, what a beauty! Congrats to the authors, read about it here: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The first time was so nice, we had to do it twice #Mongolia

Hey 6-year-old me, I cowboy camped (=bivacco) at the Flaming Cliffs, watched the sunset, slept under the Milky Way, woke up to the sunrise (and even found the fossils this place is famous for). How about that? Bucket list: 🪣✅🏜️🦖🪺 #dinosaur #exploration #Mongolia #Gobi #adventure

Surreal to be at Togrogiin Shiree, the “fighting dinosaurs” type section. Sounds like a dream to unearth a complete, articulated Protoceratops and a finding a baby dromaeosaur dentary. Best of all: teammates who make a frantic five-hour dig feel like a walk in the park 🦖🌅
August 27, 2025 at 10:10 AM
Follow me for a taste of good paleontology: today’s menu featured a complete turtle, bits of Protoceratops and Velociraptor, and dinosaur tracks 🦖🦕 #Gobi #Mongolia #dinosaur #paleontology

#FossilFriday hits differently when you’re out in the field, particularly when your eyes land on an articulated avimimid and on a baby velociraptorine, but most importantly when you know you work with the best 🦖 #dinosaurs #paleontology #Gobi #Mongolia

Great news from Birmingham to the Gobi: talk accepted to #2025SVP #SVP2025 - see you in November to chat Opisthocoelicaudia and titanosaur macroevolution. Bonus Milky Way pic from my tent ⛺️ 🌌🦕

After a great icebreaker kicking off the annual @eavpalaeo.bsky.social meeting in Kraków, I'm finally digging into a fantastic first session. If you're interested in sauropod macroevolution and new relevant insights on Opisthocoelicaudia, don’t miss my talk on Wednesday at 12:15 🦕🔥 #EAVP2025!

New day, new paper! 🦣🌍 Led by @mapaslab.bsky.social ab.bsky.social PhD student Sofía Galván and out now in Global Ecology and Biogeography in which we asked:

"Could future palaeontologists detect today’s biodiversity patterns from fossils alone?"

Palaeoart by @d_bonadonna offers a glimpse into a latest Cretaceous scene from Mongolia, depicting a Tarbosaurus consuming a Deinocheirus carcass, with primary consumers like Saurolophus drinking on the opposite side and Nemegtosaurus foraging in the background 🦕 5/5

In 200 years of dinosaur research since the publication of Megalosaurus, we have learned a lot about non-avian dinosaur diversity, from their varied morphologies & sizes to their adaptations to geographic restructuring (the breakup of Pangea, opening of the Atlantic Ocean)… 3/5

I cover the major insights gained so far on dinosaur macroecology, as well as the limitations & new methodologies advancing this field, with a forward look at the path ahead. Special thanks to @NHMdinolab & @Tweetisaurus for inviting me to contribute this feature 2/5

If you’re up for a post-Halloween scare, imagine what Late Cretaceous dinosaurs, living around 70 million years ago, felt as one of the largest (and predatory) flying reptiles (Quetzalcoatlus) menacingly flew above their heads #FossilFriday #not #dinosaurs #Halloween #2024SVP 🦖 🎃
